Khunu Lama128 In a crowd of scholars bodhicitta makes one attractive. In a crowd of fools bodhicitta makes one attractive. In a crowd of ordinary folk bodhicitta makes one attractive. Bodhicitta produces joy for all.

Khunu Lama121 If non-artificial, precious bodhicitta is produced and does not degenerate but further increases, it is absolutely definite that the stage of the knowledge of all modes of meditation will be obtained.

Khunu Lama120 When bodhicitta has been taken as a friend it is as reliable as the axial mountain, and no matter how great a terror there may be, like a lion it is ever free from fear.

Re: Disagreeing with the guru
What is the recommended course of action when there is a disagreement with the guru (on non-dharma topics)? As an example some lamas might not believe in evolution and prefer the traditional Buddhist view of how sentient beings appear in the world. My assumption is that we are to just disagree poli...

Khunu Lama118 Even if all of the wholesome thoughts of earthlings were to be gathered together into one, it would not compare with a fraction of bodhicitta, just as [ordinary] trees [cannot compare with] the pārijātaka tree.

Re: fastest growing "religion"
OK thanks Malcolm I see this word "nihilism" bandied about by Buddhists as if they are clear about what the term means. This is largely a result of its misuse by Tibetan teachers who write in English. Nihilism is in fact moral skepticism: https://plato.stanford.edu/entries/skepticism-mora...

Khunu Lama108 One whose mindstream is ornamented with bodhicitta is free from obscuration, stops doing harm to self and others, and is empowered to bring together a great surge of good qualities.

Re: fastest growing "religion"
Absence of metaphysical convictions does not equal absence of ethical and social concerns, in fact, it can make them more compelling. Arguably, if one requires a theory of karmic retribution, for example, to drive one’s ethical conduct, one’s moral fiber is fairly weak and self-involved. I don't pe...

Khunu Lama105 It might be possible to lasso the wind. It might be possible for sandalwood to have warmth. It might be possible for light to turn to darkness. It is impossible for bodhicitta ever to betray you.

Re: Altruism
104 Bodhicitta is the supreme essence that is obtained [from churning] the milk ocean of the Guru Buddha’s teachings. So until one is enlightened, one should make an effort to treat it as important.

Re: fastest growing "religion"
Are you a Buddhist? Then you're an atheist. Basic definitions. Don't really class myself as an Atheist thanks 1. It’s easier for a Buddhist to be an atheist than for an atheist to be a buddhist. 2. Technically, a theist is a person who believes in the existence of a god. An atheist is someone who r...

Problem with atheism is there's nothing stopping you falling into nihilism having no respect for anything or anyone not having confidence in karma or thinking there are consequences for your actions Religion doesn’t seem to stop a lot of people either. Start a new thread about that I'll opt out
