Re: Traces of scholasticism in (Zen) Buddhism

Astus has the answer, once you get to the point in practice, the theory will become clear

Re: interventions for self-destructive freinds/family?

Find a trained psychologist skilled in both addiction/alcoholism & arranging interventions. Otherwise I would not go there. The psychologist is there to represent you as a family, not the addict/alcoholic. Hopefully they are already working with someone, but psychologists are like lawyers, they will...

Pu Erh tea, after the third or fourth infusion it gets easy to drink, and it gets better with age, some families like to keep a nice stash of 100 year old for special guests. It grows on trees in Yunnan Province, it is related to ordinary tea (camellia) - oh yeah it’s a probiotic food

Milarepa was a sorcerer who used his powers to murder his own family. He must have been the most unhappy person on earth. Then he found a Guru, but his guru rejected him. He persisted and eventually became the Milarepa we know and love today. It says a lot about the power of redemption offered thro...

Thumbs up or thumbs down, if you have tried this. And before you go all sectarian, Vajrayana, Mahāyāna, and Theraveda teachers all here and there teach Mindfulness Meditation or Mindfulness Practice. All I ask for is an up or down vote. If you have tried it. Mindfulness is an essential practice in ...

Kundalini is an inquenchable Fire, my advice is get enlightenment first then if you still want to awaken powers, etc. plus it’s not exactly a safe thing to do. It has symptoms identical with serotonin poisoning. Google that while you look up this topic. Anyway why bother, you can open Dharma Eye an...

Re: Awakening kundalini?

Hmmm, actually hatha yoga and tantric yoga may have originated in the Buddhist Vihara. That's what historians are beginning to point to. And I would not assume kundalini isn't a relevant topic, he may be onto something. Still, a few thousand hours of sitting practice should help to sort things out. ...

Re: Mindfulness Meditation

Mindfulness of what with what intention? There's the difference. If you mean modern day "savor the moment" mindfulness of sensory pleasures to attain worldly happiness, I'm not sure many here will get behind that, but it isn't really what mindfulness meant until relatively recently, that I know. Fo...

Re: The Wheel of Life (Bhavacakra) - a scholarly analysis

Dear All, I am looking for a scholarly discussion of the wheel of life, interpreted - if possible - along psychological/psychotherapeutic (i.e. more or less this-wordly) lines. What are the books and papers to which I should refer? All the best, Daimonion Well yes, I’m not sure which ancient or mod...
