Re: Dharma Wheel Heavy Weights

Maybe not, but you're a semi-famous person, especially in the Buddhist scene, have written some books, done translations, so if not a "public" person per se, something pretty close where someone might want to write a bio / wikipedia article, amazon.com bio, etc one day, so was curious. I discourage...

What we really need is a DW rating system, kind of like what they have for chess.

Re: Chogyal Namkhai Norbu books and so forth?

The books Norbu Rinpoche wrote that had the greatest impact on me personally were the Song of the Vajra commentary, the Precious Vase, and Crystal. Other than what's in the editor's note in the 2000 version of Crystal, are there any other differences between that Snow Lion version and the original ...

My little town with no Dharma centers or anything just had a screening of the documentary "Walk with Me" at the local movie theater. Quite a nice film, I really enjoyed it.

"Fire Walk with Me" is more my kind of thing.

Re: Question about transmission and pointing-out instructions

Rick, I believe you feel a connection with Anam Thubten. If you become a member of the Dharmata Foundation you can participate in his live broadcasts, which take place about twice a month. Why don't you try that and see what your experience is like? Yes, I consider him to be my root teacher, did tw...

Re: Dakini Script?

There have actually been at least two female tertons, namely Sera Khandro and Tare Lhamo. And Ayu Khandro. /magnus Do all of them have current incarnations? Apparently Tare Lhamo was actually considered to be one of Sera Khandro's incarnations, as is Chatral Rinpoche's daughter Saraswati. One of th...

Re: Dakini Script?

Furthermore, gling-ma does not mean a river bank as in the Valby dictionary but rather refers to a dry place within a river or some kind of islet appearing when a lake is drying. These are generally sand islets. The "funny" thing, and why everyone (knowledgeable tibetologists and lamas alike) laugh...

Re: Random Thoughts

I wish I had more leisure time to read and learn from DW, but alas, Im too busy exhausting my negative karma as a social worker. In Beetlejuice (which I recently saw again) they made a joke that people who commit suicide become civil servants in the afterlife. That movie has one of my all-t...

Re: Types of emanations

This discussion reminds me of a passage from "The Guru Drinks Bourbon?": NEPOTISM I once asked David Noodle what he thought about the book Blazing Splendor , and he said, “Oh, that story of Tibetan nepotism?” He may have been joking, but it’s true: there is a lot of nepotism in Tibetan Buddhism. Par...

A female terton?! What is the world coming too?! Next thing, you know, someone will be teaching Dzogchen through webcasts, giving empowerments through recordings, or students will be empowered not to be abused by fake lamas!!! There have actually been at least two female tertons, namely Sera Khandr...

Re: Dakini Script?

The terrible thing in all that is that Chogyam could not have chosen a worst name had he had any correct knowledge of the tertons milieu and what a gling-pa is. He made up the idea of a gling-ma, while ignoring that it does not exist... Sorry for the ignorance, but what is a gling-pa and why is gli...

Re: The DJKR Topic

Yes, everyone from whom you receive empowerment, etc. from is your guru. They may not be your mulaguru or root guru, but they are indeed to be considered your guru. Would you like the citation storm? Ratnākaraśānti’s Kṛṣṇayamāripañjikā states: Having heard even a single verse, if one does not hold ...
