I wouldn't be in too much of a rush to become a "Buddhist".

Widur, I think you might understand why I said this a little better now.

You might want to look into Kurukulla practice.

To think that one is exempt from the egoism as displayed by the people in the study is a bit egoic, is it not?

All modesty aside, I am almost certainly one of the least egoic meditators in the world.

Re: refuge tree visualisation

As Thinley Norbu Rinpoche says in "Magic Dance": If we are practicing visualization and have no expectation, then whatever kind of deity we visualize, we will spontaneously see Wisdom Deity. Too much serious concentration is the cause of grasping neurotic mind. If we try to visualize Wisdom Deity wi...

Re: Have you tried Holotropic Breathwork?

Do you have a problem with something being easy? Well, for instance, in the book when talking about Leary and the like, Pollan describes how in some people ego dissolution can rapidly lead to ego expansion. So a sustained effort may be necessary to integrate such an experience. I can't see ever not...

Re: Competitive meditators...

As Thinley Norbu Rinpoche said: If we really want to be sublime meditators, we should not set a time period for our meditation as is the modern meditator's style. I used to read krishnamurt, who was always insistent there was no method to meditation. “Meditation”, he would say, “is when there’s not...

Re: Have you tried Holotropic Breathwork?

My understanding is that Grof developed Holotropic Breathwork because LSD and other psychedelics were banned. It might be a lot easier and more effective to try LSD or something similar, see e.g.: https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/lsd-may-chip-away-at-the-brain-s-sense-of-self-network/ I'm...

Re: Dzogchen and Mahamudra: differences and similarities

Here , DJKR quotes the Buddha to the effect that the three incalculable eons required for Buddhahood is actually even shorter than the time it takes for a spark to come out from a fire. In a universe where a billion universes can be included in an atom, three incalculable eons can fit in a second. ...

Re: Dzogchen and Mahamudra: differences and similarities

Answer by DKR: Can. There are various methods to attain rainbow body, it can also be attained by practicing six or ten paramitas, even if one practices the Mahayana bodhisattva path, rainbow body can similarly be attained. Yes, but that takes three incalculable eons, not in one lifetime. But the po...

Re: Have you tried Holotropic Breathwork?

To be somewhat uncomfortably candid with you, the reason I’m currently interested in holotropic breathwork and other ‘hacks’ is rather specific: to deactivate the neural default mode network. This is the neural network associated with the sense of self. As a Buddhist, I assume it makes intuitive se...

Just noticed that DJKR's Hinamudra teachings are available here: http://mixlr.com/siddharthas-intent/showreel/ HINAMUDRA: A teaching on the theory and practice of Buddhism for lethargic, indulgent, lazy, depressed and spaced out couch potatoes, for obsessive blue-collar and white-collar busy-bees fe...
