Re: Tonglen meditation

Thank you, I did overcome my fear just because I felt I was suffering because my dog was sufffering, so we should suffer together even if the Tonglen failed we would suffer in compassion together. I did practice with this video https://youtu.be/YjeDh2xw4Qw I was afraid there might be danger in takin...

Re: Cat Meditation

I used to listen to my cats purring as the focus of mindfulness meditation of listening, it also brings bhodicitta into my heart. I also heard of a temple where monks would meditate with cats who would repeatedly jump over their heads to try to disturb their meditations, but being the masters that t...

I am a very sensitive person who picks up on others people’s pains just normally, so I was wondering if there is any danger in doing this practice if one already suffers from chronic pain conditions? My dog Is dying and is in discomfort, I would like to relieve his pain. He has cancer and is in the ...

Re: Can we write our next lives now?

I’m always wondering if I could write my next life now in this life. I don't even know what this is meant to mean - this phrase write my next life , it means something to you? :rolleye: To sit down and think about where, when, and what I will be after death. For instance I would like to be reborn in...

Re: Dangers of Meditation?

As someone who had developed severe chronic pain due to fibromyalgia, I went in search of alternative treatments, one of them was kundalini yoga and one on one yoga meditation therapy. Well, the yoga instructor knew I had bipolar which later turned to Schizoaffective diagnosis after a psychotic brea...

Can we write our next lives now?

I’m always wondering if I could write my next life now in this life. Considering you would have to write it according to the Four Noble Truths if one is Buddhist, I then wonder why I would want to return if all my desires would eventually lead to dukka? Then I can see if I wrote out my life it would...

Re: Collective karma

When you are in a group of people and they yawn, can you prevent yourself from yawning? We all share biological and cultural subconscious reactions that are shared. Perception of the mind is interpreting these reactions through the lense of one’s own conditioned experience. If you bow I may bow if I...

Re: Unable to visualize

I used to be able to visualize clearly as if the visions where right in front of me and then I got diagnosed with Schizoaffective Disorder and placed on many psychoactive drugs which now inhibit my visualization. As a psychology major I read The Open Mind by Dr. Dawna Markova which explains very cle...

Re: Collective karma

This thought occurred to me that as an American we are in deep trouble as a country if group karma is true. Hiroshima and Nagasaki are horrible events in history and history tends to repeat itself. It makes my blood run cold to think that this could be. If there is any evidence to refute group karma...

Re: Obstacles to Bodhicitta

What if the block to Bodhicitta is a simple biological one, the female brain is more developed in the limbic system of emotions where compassion can be exercised. The male brain is underdeveloped in emotions, but not in gay men. This might be some people are meant to be more compassionate biological...

Re: is doing spell is ok in Buddhism?

Tibetan saint Milarepa was trained in sorcery to kill his family’s enemies. His mother trained him to use magic against others and he gained realization from this bad karma which led him to train as the Master Marpa’s slave. He finished his bad karma after nine years of repenting and learned the tea...

Re: is doing spell is ok in Buddhism?

Prayers, mantras, and spells could all be considered magic as they use repetitive chanting or reciting of a patterns of words along with intention to produce an effect upon our mind and reality. But most feedback from this forum seems to view magic as a distraction from liberation of samsara I think...

Re: "Wild Wild Country" - Osho documentary on Netflix

Loved the documentary because it seemed like a bunch of naive hippies having fun until Osho’s higher ups started a war on those poor ignorant Christian townsfolk. Then you could tell someone was on a power trip and not concerned with spirituality. I believe the commune was genuinely trying to practi...

They say, “When you are ready a teacher will come.” Perhaps you are not ready? Perhaps the teacher is not ready. Just be patient, these things generally work, out in time.

Re: Soul fragmentation and defragmentation as Buddism teaching?

Well, when I read the article below I was quite bewildered - Master Hsuan Hua basically said that a person would go through rebirth as multiple animals or plants simultaneously due to his 'soul' being fragmented. In some other articles I read, he mentioned that these fragmented souls would need to ...
