Re: Main students of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

I have a quick question of the thriving DW Choygal scene. Since he is getting older who is going to take over for him once he passes away? Are there certain students always kind of mentioned as his "close and top students?" If not who do you think will become the next big figurehead of Dzogchen. Fi...

Re: The DJKR Topic

I find this very interesting, which is why I asked about it being common knowledge. I spent most of my time in Vajrayana circles in Northern California, where I don't recall anyone with a starry-eyed view staying that way for very long if at all. The Lamas I were spoke quite highly of individual pr...

Re: The DJKR Topic

The environment they grew up in did not allow for it. This is absolute nonsense. Chogyal Namkhai Norbu has publicly discussed the phenomena of monastic pedophiles who targeted him and other young tulkus in the monasteries. As have others such as Yangsi Kalu Rinpoche. It is hard to hear such account...

After the release of Drung, Deu and Bon IIRC. I'll try to get more info.
Ok.
Edit: Necklace of Zi.

Send a message to Yudron to see if she remembers the specifics.

Re: The DJKR Topic

No, their statements concerened what he said . They were not statements about him as a person. They solely addressed the content of his joke. He made it about their persons. You could argue that he is actually manipulating their words here -- to which he would probably retort: "Why can't you just r...

Re: The DJKR Topic

The "novelty" of such posts has worn off, and so has their shock value. He continues to offend those already offended, and endear himself to those who already cherish his crazy-wisdom-on-FB shtick. Well, he has massively upped the ante by calling out Lama Tsultrim Allione publicly. It seems to me h...

Which is a massive pity. The transmission of Vajrayana to the West, the interpenetration of Vajrayana ...

I specifically asked because of this post, perhaps I am just reading into it, I thought it was cryptic at first, but upon reading it I guess not.
They certainly should have come up with a different title.

You're doing great work and a really important service Grigoris, under what must be very difficult circumstances.

Re: The DJKR Topic

this may be a topic for a different thread, but here goes anyway. bracketing the question of culture for a moment: is it possible that you and Malcolm have a different understanding of guru yoga at the level of doctrine or instructions for practice that may be impacting this conversation? I doubt i...

You get rid of ISIS and something else will grow to take it's place. Guaranteed. Unless you deal with the root of the problem.
Absolutely. And the new Evil Guys will do their best to outdo the Daesh in this respect. Terror is the terrorist's currency.

Re: The DJKR Topic

Firstly, couldn't one say that about any Mahayna practitioner? Certainly one could as regards seeing all beings as Buddha. "How can you see all beings as Buddha if you think they do things wrong" seems a similar line of thinking, and equally off... Really though, seems like a a sophomoric question ...

Re: The DJKR Topic

Before I am labelled an anti-DJKR hardliner, I have to confess (even though it has already become quite trendy around here) that I liked his first two books, really enjoyed his pictures and quite appreciated his teachings. Before the Sogyal calamity there was really no bone to pick at all. Nor have ...

Re: The DJKR Topic

At this point it should be clear that part of what Dzongsar is doing is what's known as "trolling." It could also be called iconoclasm and attacking some remaining post-Trungpa sacred cows. But now he is not doing anything of the sort -- I mean, he is not toppling statues, is he? Either he is genui...

Re: The DJKR Topic

Today DJKR has posted on his FB a link to a lecture by Douglas Murray, a British journalist famous (or rather notorious) for his relentless support for the neoconservative cause. The topic of the lecture is the alleged irreconcilability of Islam and the "liberal West" (whatever it is). In the light ...

Re: The DJKR Topic

Good questions, Greg. I would say the problem here is above all how our teachers present themselves and other teachers -- and what sort of explanations they give for their actions. And of course how they explain who they are and what they do shapes how we see them. I am willing to go for the traditi...

Re: The DJKR Topic

In the context of his response to the Sogyal debacle (which, tbh, I found much more off-putting) it is a mess. He is trying to eat his cake and have it at the same time. The Sogyal letter was along the lines of "your guru-qua-guru is a Buddha, that is all you need to know (and if you disregard it, y...
