Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

I’m trying to deepen my practice by studying from a fairly high nyingma tulku in my area who eventually teaches DZ (it seems like maybe 4 years in?), but the more I learn from ChNN the harder it is to appreciate less straightforward / more ‘traditional’ teachers, no matter how well respected they a...

Quick question--I'm without access to a Merigar calendar for the moment--regarding surgery, can any lookup where the force of energy is dwelling for a metal mouse on Feb 22 and Feb 29? Help much appreciated--thanks.
No clue about metal mice, but Feb 22 is a good day in general -- unlike Feb 29.

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

Maybe I'll just have to get to work on my Italian. While certainly fun, and just as surely useful, learning Italian is no necessary prerequisite for going to Merigar. I do not speak a word in the language (and my far-from-perfect French proved to be just as useless as English) -- but got along just...

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

I'm thinking about spending a few months over the summer at a Gar/Ling, probably in Europe. I'm from Scotland, currently living in Nepal, neither of which has much of a DC presence. Being new to the community I'm keen to connect with other practitioners, learn from more experienced ones, participat...

Is it necessary to have received the transmission of ati guru yoga in order to view the webcast of the upcoming
Mandarava drupchen?
Not at all. Rinpoche will transmit the Ati GY during the Drupchen.

Take that as a blessing, and it will works as a blessing.

Why bring division ? It has been done out of love for you, the priest certainly did it with sincerity. It's not a curse. You have not been doomed. You did not enter a satanic church. Relax.

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

FWIW I'm reading a really interesting book called "Spell of the Sensuous." It is, among other things, an introduction to phenomenology and this was precisely one of the early issues in that field; how to acknowledge that we can only know our direct experiences, but not turn it into solipsism. It mi...

Re: The Aro Authenticity Debate.

If the Dharma, which says that all things are impermanent, is also impermanent, does that mean that there are things etc that are, in fact, permanent and eternal? Hmm... I think this thread might be one such thing. https://dhammawheel.com/download/file.php?id=2654&sid=234a354480f0e25eb2c...

Re: The Aro Authenticity Debate.

You have certainly offered nothing as an objective standard for how to know what to accept and what to reject. I don't think you are up to the challenge either. Karma Dorje said it already and so did I: If it conforms to the Four Dharma Seals then it is Dharma. So then you accept Advaita Vedanta as...

Has Rinpoche ever given the lung for any of Longchenpa's Seven Treasuries? If not, is he likely to do so in the future?
It is highly unlikely. Rinpoche gives only lungs for practices, with some fairly rare exceptions (the Dra Thalgyur tantra, for instance). No time for book-length texts.

Re: Instant Presence and Physical Pain

What do you think "resting in rigpa" means? Let's define our terms here. Exactly what Rinpoche means when he says "being in the natural state," "being in the state of Guru Yoga," "being in your primordial state," "being in instant presence," etc. This is too vague. And you are not telling me what Y...

Re: Instant Presence and Physical Pain

When one is in perfect śamatha, one will not feel pain. Śamatha in fact was the historical Buddha's ibuprofen. This is mentioned in more than one sutta. Well, Rinpoche disagrees, assuming resting in rigpa entails being in perfect śamatha. What do you think "resting in rigpa" means? Let's define our...

[...] when you are in this state, mental factors associated with pain of the body have no means of arising.
