Re: Concise Guide to Conservatism

Spiritual traditions are traditional , not progressive. The Church of Satan would care to disagree. Spiritual traditions can be progressive. Ever heard of Engaged Buddhism, for example? Secularists can be incredibly conservative. Richard Dawkins / Jordan Peterson are both "secularists" in various w...

Reciting nembutsu with a distracted mind

Do the recitations still count as valid? Anything the masters had to say about it?

Re: Korean Buddhism and the Fifth Precept

Hi, I'm wondering whether Korean Buddhists are strict at observing the Fifth Precept. Do they abstain from all alcohol or just make sure they don't drink enough to get drunk (I have seen that as an interpretation of the 5th Precept). I know that Korea has a big drinking culture. Workers are expecte...

Re: proof of nirvana?

A friend of mine naively asked me the other day, "is there any proof of Nirvana? can you show it to me?" Before i tell you how i answered, i am curious to know your answers. Can we prove the existence of Nirvana, either through logic or sutras? it is a fair question after all. Btw, I answered in th...

Re: Which traditions revere vegetarianism the most?

One anecdote I heard from an attendant was when Kusan Sunim, a great contemporary Korean teacher came to the US, many people had no idea about him being vegetarian or not drinking alcohol. He also made no mention of it and just quietly picked some rice and veggies. At one stage he was even poured a...

Norwegian, The sheer ignorance and vitriol you display regarding Trump is what's sad. See the things he's accomplished and re-evaluate yourself. ►Move the U.S. Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem. ►Pull the United States out of the Iranian nuclear deal. ►Stand up to NATO countries for not ponying up enou...

Re: Tulsi Gabbard

Bernie 2020. Too old. If he wins he will probably be dead by the end of this first term. There's no upper age limit, and unlike trump, he's not showing signs of dementia. Have you seen trump drinking from a cup recently? He needs to use both hands Sanders isn't a bad guy but a bit too extreme.
