Re: I thought this article was very revealing.

I grew up debating Dharma, these tactics really aren't allowed in civilized conversation, whenever people used these tactics it would always flag them as a unserious practitioner a sort of barbarian, unless they were just joking with and testing people's patience.

I thought this article was very revealing.

I know it's kinda long, but what do you guys think? I honestly see people employing these tactics virtually every day. http://preventdisease.com/news/10//081010_everything_is_a_lie.shtml" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; "Twenty-Five Rules of Disinformation 1. Hear no evi...

Re: The magic of an incense stick

Buddhist offerings should be done with proper understanding, intention, and protocol with regard to customs. You don't have to but it is good to work in accordance with these three things. This means that we must understand the object we offer to (triple refuge, yidams, support deities, etc.), the v...

HHDL has a lot of practices,.. amazing man,.. I couldn't keep up with him at all. I read he does like 7 hours of practice in the morning. Even doing accumulations I never would do more than 5 hours straight. Knowing that,... how could you ever tell him your practices are too much and ask to reduce y...

Re: Top Ten Misconceptions About Buddhism

47. Tricycle is a source of valid Buddhist information and not a collection of ads and articles largely written by and for uneducated yuppies. I'm sorry, I just had to say that, I looked at a copy at barnes and noble and it just wasn't satisfactory, it's like they don't have a editor who checks the ...

Drolma, maybe the Zen related posts could be moved to a new topic under the Dharma-free-for-all? I tend to repeat myself whenever the subject comes up, but it would be a waste to lose Huseng's post.

Harsh speech is not always against the training,.. also some things we must say are not but appear like malicious speech solely because it refers to a object someone defends. For instance, maybe someone is bad at making hats and I pay them to make one for me, when I see the hat and say, "Your h...

Hmm, maybe,.. What you say is based on something you've heard, what I say is based on assumption,.. have to lean to your view, at least it is based on something.

While spiritnoname you didn't meet BodhiDharma or Dogen. Maybe you would have been impressed by them. Then again you didn't meet Buddha, but what school would he belong today. Western zen newbies don't necessarily reflect the results the Zen tradition could produce now do they. And maybe if I met J...

Re: Responsability of the Bodhisattva.

 Do you have a reference for that statement Tilopa? There are many rules in the various sets of vows for not overstating our level of attainment, not to state some classes of attainments to some classes of people, and because of these rules people shy away from even saying they are a Bodhi...

Re: Guru Yoga: the heart of Vajrayana?

I wouldn't say the heart of it, because it's not like that. See the guru, the yidams, the triple gem, the vows, they're all the same thing. The guru is the first one you meet, he gives you the refuge in the triple gem, the vows, the yidams, so in that sense he's first and foremost, but you could say...

Another reason for me to think Zen is for losers. quote] Our pride to belong to a certain lineage/school/tradition. It's not a matter of pride on my part, it's a matter of discernment,. Mr. Gordo that's good to know,.. I'm not a practitioner of Shugden,.. I'm not NKT,.. I don't have much to do with them, only actually talked to a administrator of a center once on the phone,.. Luke, there are few things that offend me like alcohol and drugs, but it doesn't change the tantras,.. I've got no word in this matter, I can't change it, pointless to try to convince me.
