Re: Best countries to expand buddhism?

Just in case it hasn't been stressed enough or isn't clear enough, there is in fact a very specific reason this "division" exists, and it has been mentioned several times in this thread. That reason is this: Theravada (or more properly Hinayana) and Mahayana have different goals--personal enlighten...

Re: Best countries to expand buddhism?

i have explained to you three times in two different discussions (including this one) that Buddhists across different traditions are ALREADY working towards mutual respect and understanding. Just because you are blissfully unaware of it (ignorant, lacking knowledge, a descriptor of your condition a...

Re: Best countries to expand buddhism?

That is a historical objective perspective. Let me offer you a Buddhist metaphysics objective perspective. 1. Buddha is all knowing 2. Buddha teaches according to the needs of students 3. Students hear according to their needs 4. Every student has different needs 5. Student needs are divided into 3...

Re: Best countries to expand buddhism?

I am not going to try and inform your ignorant view again... what is ignorant? do you have any logical reason to desire the ancient division of mahayana and theravada be mantained , instead of seeking unity ? what would be the negative consequence of such unity ? also, doesnt calling others names v...

Re: Best countries to expand buddhism?

Has no one here ever heard of Soka Gakkai? The organization that has spread the Buddhadharma all over the world? I think it's absolutely admirable. And no coincidence that when I went to a local Soka Gakkai meeting some years ago in my area that 80% of the members there were Black, Indian, Hispanic...

Re: Best countries to expand buddhism?

You want me to quote your posts back to you? It would be easier if you went back and reread them with a slightly more objective and critical eye. I will give you an example: You say that Buddhist traditions need to be unified. Do you know why they are "seperated"? Wouldn't it be a good idea to know...

You continuously make sweeping generalisations and present no evidence to back your opinions. Why should anyone be taking you seriously?
Your critique is of a mis/un- informed caricature of what you believe Buddhism is...
Could you elaborate on that ?

Re: Best countries to expand buddhism?

There are countless Buddhist scriptures that discourage acting from impulses of dominating and beating others - including other religions. Criticising wrong ideas that can be present in some aspects of specific religions, is not the same as attacking the practicioners of these religions as people. ...

Re: Best countries to expand buddhism?

You are trying to change karma without having the proper skills to help people. How do you know you will not harm them? Your idea of "missionary" is really best understood in terms of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas and their skills - which maybe you are or are not familiar with. Firstly, you should know,...

Re: Best countries to expand buddhism?

If it is a buddhist view ir not, it depends of the buddhist tradition. originally contesting other religions and philosophies in debates and philosphical points was done by early buddhism and by the buddha, and there are plenty of texts concerning that. but in certain buddhist thoughts (in zen for e...

Re: Best countries to expand buddhism?

another thing that is relevant. believe it or not , most people in the world DO HAVE a very positive view of buddhism and hinduism. but because the religions dont spread properly (with exceptions) , people who could be buddhist or hindus in the right circunstances never become, because they dont eve...

Re: Best countries to expand buddhism?

Originally buddhism was very symilar to a reformed version of jainism and the buddha himself was first a jain. I respect the view of you guys, but i think these views are too idealist. in the real world when we see the history of religions. the reason of why they expand or reduce is grounded in conc...

Re: Best countries to expand buddhism?

Have you considered the possibility that the giant divisions you see in Buddhism are merely your own projection? To be honest, I don't see the kind of division you seem to see. As others have said, the Buddha taught different dharma doors for different people. Personally, I don't experience much co...

Re: Best countries to expand buddhism?

A great unifyed buddhist organization would not be a bad thing as long as its not the ONLY buddhist path/school. in christianity catholic church is big but its not the only christian organization. in fact there are several christian organizations with great numbers that are not catholic.

Re: Best countries to expand buddhism?

there should not be a single buddhist schools, but the division should certainly be reduced. and unifying mahayana and therava would only generate good things. it would boost the dharma and greatly increase buddhist cooperation and interaction between schools in asia. buddhism needs something like t...

Re: Best countries to expand buddhism?

The goal is to produce a more unifyed buddhism. hence more able to teach and spread the dharma to the world. the differences of theravada and mahayana can be mended and the schools can unite. im not saying there is a fight between theravada and mahayana. im saying the opposite, the difference betwee...

Re: Best countries to expand buddhism?

Jesus, leave those ideas. Buddhism is here to produce enlightened beings and liberate beings from suffering not to be spread out like christianity or islam. The only country where buddhism should be spread is the country of your mind and the only mission that should be set up is the compassionate m...
