Re: Marxism and Buddhism

It's very telling that the Buddha forbade monks from touching money. Liberalism is a scam created by deposed monarchs to retain power IMO. They can be as socially progressive as they want but property rights are always sacrosanct. Money being the real power in this world people are given the illusi...

Re: Conditionality, Idapaccayatā

Below is from a quick google search. I am not an expert in Sanskrit by any means. Idappaccayatā (Pali, also idappaccayata; Sanskrit: idaṃpratyayatā) is a Buddhist term that is translated as "specific conditionality" or "this/that conditionality". English: specific conditionality, this/that conditi.....

Re: A small practice but a good one

I have for some years been in the habit of ending each social encounter by saying "Namaste". I was told that it essentially is an acknowledgement of the Buddha within the person you have been talking to. That may or may not be accurate, but hey if you want accuracy you can always ask Malcolm. Now i...

Re: Rise of plant-based alternative Meats? (like Soy-based)

Great, sounds hopeful. Veggie based patties has been around for many years already (like more than 10+ years ago), although in the past it seems the taste and dryness factors were obstacles to sales and adoption. Hopefully the newer better versions will help bring more veggie converts, and maybe eve...

Rise of plant-based alternative Meats? (like Soy-based)

Not sure if this is just media-based hype just to boost some corporate profits, or if there is actual increase in demand for these types of plant-based protein replacing meat. If this becomes actual sustainable long term trend , with no reported harmful side-effects or pitfalls, then maybe animal lo...

Re: Just As I Was Begining To Worry.

I know that feeling of heart soaring relief and joy. In the past two years I've enjoyed watching the return of the bumblebee. For many years I had not seen even one but after the ban of garden and lawn pesticides and weed killers, they are now visibly rebounding. Good points, feels like overuse of ...

Re: Just As I Was Begining To Worry.

Agreed,it is heartening to see wildlife thrive, especially the non-harmful ones. Hopefully the honey bees make a return. At least, I do have observed bees in the wild at more isolated park regions in Canada. Just not near human-crowded places or backyards. Maybe the bees have evolved to be more tame...

Re: Parlez-Vous le Français?

Bonjour! Re: Meditation with nature sounds

Similar experience here. When I go outside to sit on a bench at my local park , then let go of my wandering thoughts, and focus only on my breath, or mental recitation of a Buddha's name. For those moments there I stop worrying about daily life matters (like economy, jobs, food, video games competit...

Re: Great Vegan Debate

This is just me and some of my family member's opinion: we are very leery of any synthetically man-made substance, so that includes any supplements. By natural, we mean that it needs to be from natural sources which grows from the earth - i.e formerly living plants or animals. It is like we trust li...

Re: Great Vegan Debate

Just for reference: Vitamin B12 deficiency seems to be easily resolved by drinking milk. And I found many sources all over the internet that has indicated that Shakyamuni Buddha and his historical Sangha has indeed consumed milk. It is not 100% vegan, but please note that organic cows milk productio...

Re: Andrew Yang is running for President. Who?

Well we live in a mostly globally-intertwined society, so "Humanity First" and Globalism trends might be unavoidable, at least for the non-isolationists. Seeing how much impact USA has on other countries all over the world. Anyways, catchy quote near the end from the above video: "It's not about lef...

Re: Best country to live in to practice Mahayana Buddhism?

As for Taiwan, since I have some family ties back there, I can tell you a few warnings: There are a few alleged scandals on the news in recent years about Buddhist monks not being ethical enough - such as accusation of rape of nuns in the same temples, bribery corruption, traffic or even government ...

Re: Trauma and the public mind

I think all the above posts raises very good and valid points. I wonder if its has over exposure of information in our internet age: The monkey minds loves to compare with each other too much, then with the cascading effect, you will have mass-victimization as a crowd movement effect, especially in ...

Re: Giving, reinstating or being taken advantage of ?

My opinion generally concurs with all the wise postings above. As far as I know, reasonable self-defense is permitted in many schools of Buddhism; in line with avoiding "idiot compassion" as stated above; Otherwise it might just end up encouraging further bad behaviours. 3 years is way too long to h...

Re: Buddhist Economics

From the linked article: Gross National Happiness (GNH) rather than the Gross National Product (GNP) I would say that this is key, but it would entail shifting embedded cultural values. That would be difficult and take time, if a method for achieving it were even possible to develop. Well said, thi...
