Re: Tibetan sources of ānāpānasmṛti

At one point I was quite interested in this, did a lot of research, and put that into here:

Re: Loch Kelly

Hello all, I am a colleague of Loch Kelly’s and wanted to clear up some of the confusions here: 1. I have helped coordinate events for Loch and other teachers. Some of the information about fees is related to communicating with hosts about how many students they think will attend. Most lay teachers...

Re: Good resources on karma?

The Law of Karma: A Philosophical Study by Bruce Reichenbach, University of Hawaii Press, ISBN 0-8248-1352-9 This book is a little obscure but it is wonderful and one of its kind. One of the only places I've ever seen anyone treat some of the philosophical conundrums that arise from the implication...

Re: Mahayana/Yogacara Abhidharma reflects Pali Nikayas better than Theravadin Abhidhamma

I'm reading through Lusthaus' "Buddhist Phenomenology" now, I'm still near the beginning but I found this interesting note by him that Walpola Rahula had already noted in 1978 in "A Comparative Study of the Dhyanas according to Theravada, Sarvastivada and Mahayana" in Zen and the Taming of the Bull...

Re: Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche name change

It is an interesting question, how much privacy public lamas such as DPR are entitled to regarding the basic facts of their lives. Recently I was told by someone who is close to DPR (or at least close enough to know with certainty) that it is quite true that he is married and has a young daughter wi...

Re: DW Reader's Choice Awards?

If it was limited to books it might be less contentious, and also serve to provide some much needed exposure to underappreciated work.

A Fine Blend of Mahāmudrā and Madhyamaka: Maitrīpa's Collection of Texts on Non-conceptual Realization (Amanasikāra)

I just discovered that Klaus-Dieter Mathes has a big book out in the field he has been working in for several years now: A Fine Blend of Mahāmudrā and Madhyamaka: Maitrīpa's Collection of Texts on Non-conceptual Realization (Amanasikāra) https://www.scribd.com/doc/312268559/A-Fine-Blend-of-Mah%C4%81...

Re: Lung disorder

Now that I think about it, I was once on a cabin retreat alone in the woods for a couple of weeks, and I decided to try and see if I could tighten up my shamatha enough to get into the first dhyana. I tried out a real tight focus on a kṛtsna stone, and all it did was generate a weird and extremely ...

Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche name change

Is there any truth to Yahoo's report that Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche changed his name to "Ricky Kwahu Arnae"? That is not what he goes by publicly now is it?

Re: Where have all the Kagyupas gone?

I made an effort at one point to try to find out what happened to the Phagmodrupa Kagyu. From what I could gather from academic sources, the Phagmodrupa political dynasty were early supporters of the Gelugpa movement. But I couldn't tell if that meant that they basically converted their religious in...
