Re: HHDL Avalokiteshvara empowerment

This is a big topic that I don't feel qualified to answer but I can say that the sadhana I referred to above doesn't actually have a self generation. It has a front generation that is used to purify, like some Vajrasattva practices.

Re: Questions about empowerments and jenang

You are so lucky to have this opportunity! I was hoping to meet H.E. Ling Rinpoche as he was due to come to Australia after he finished his NZ visit but the virus has put a stop to that. As others have mentioned you are eligible to receive the jenang but will most likely not have permission to gener...

Re: Tonglen

One approach is to take the suffering of others, visualised in the form of black smoke or light, into your heart where it chips away at the 'I' (visualised as a small ball of black light). I guess the idea is if you practice taking on the sufferings of others they become more important than your 'I'...

Thank you! That makes sense, Akshobhya embodies mirror-like wisdom.

Re: Deities who hold vajra in left hand

The vajra does represent the male principle but is most often held in the right hand. That Akshobhya holds it in his left hand seems to be a point of difference.

Deities who hold vajra in left hand

Is anyone aware of any deities aside from Akshobhya who hold a vajra in the left hand? Can anyone shed any light on the symbolism of this?

13 Deity Yamantaka practitioners in Australia

Any 13 deity Yamantaka practitioners out there in Australia? (Gelug lineage). I am hopeful of one day undertaking the approximation retreat for this deity however group retreats for the practice seem to be extremely difficult to find. Perhaps if a group of like minded practitioners could be formed w...

Re: Vajrasattva in the Gelug tradition

Thank you everyone for your replies. Perhaps, as Kausalya suggests the Gelug references I have seen to generating oneself as Vajrasattva are specifically in relation to Heruka Vajrassatva. This does seem to be the form that Lama Yeshe and Lama Zopa Rinpoche refer to most often. :thanks:

Vajrasattva in the Gelug tradition

Dr Alex Berzin says "Gelug and Kagyu do not practice Vajrasattva as a yidam. Thus, there is no Vajrasattva empowerment, no visualization of ourselves as Vajrasattva, and no visualization of lights coming from ourselves and purifying all beings around us." I have read teachings from Lama Zopa Rinpoch...

Re: Second hand mandala offering set

I have heard back from my teacher (a Geshe teaching in the FPMT organisation). He has advised me there is no problem using the mandala set. Thanks to everyone who gave their advice and opinions, I think the discussion that split off from this topic was an interesting one.

Re: HHDL teachings Bodhgaya 2019/20

Probably continuation of Manjushri cycle of empowerments by the very end of Dec 2019... Yes I think the actual schedule was continuation of Manjushri cylce at the very start of Jan and Shantideva teachings and an Avalokiteshvara empowerment at the very end of Dec. There are always some people offer...

Yes, I knew he had been unwell. He has also agreed to attend the Tsongkhapa Commemoration in starting on Dec 21 in Karnakata which is only a week before he was scheduled to be in Bodhgaya. Either way I too pray for his long life. :anjali:

HHDL teachings Bodhgaya 2019/20

His Holiness was scheduled to give teachings at the end of 2019/start of 2020 in Bodhgaya. These teachings no longer appear on his website. I have searched the site and used google but can find no reference to them being cancelled. Has anyone heard anything about them?

Re: Second hand mandala offering set

Pema Chophel's statements about second hand things has given me a lot to think about. One of my favourite things to do is troll the second hand shops-often to look for Dharma books! In fact, after 20ish years of studying various types of mostly non-vajrayana Buddhism, it was finding a copy of LZR's ...

Re: Second hand mandala offering set

Thanks Pema Chophel for a different perspective. At the same time as I bought the mandala offering set I also bought two tsa tsas. They are of the type they sell in the FPMT online store that contain rice grains blessed by LZR. I am an FPMT student and approached buying these with the idea of 'rescu...
