Tashi delek,

We know the 8 Manifestations of Guru Rinpoche, but i have also many times seen the Blue Guru Rinpoche as the Medicine Buddha.
Etc.
But there are 8 main surrounding figures, plus Pema Jungne in the centre. Who is wearing the pointy red hat?

Re: Revoking/undoing temporary refuge.

The weird (and, if I may say so, ignorant) quality of the OP makes it not inappropriate to wonder whether the history-free, detail-free "Meaningful LIfe" might be some kind of troll. Hard to say, but it would make sense.

Yes it does, thanks. As you say, I'll need to trawl for what I want, but hey, well worth it.

PS Aussiebloke John, are you who I think you are? (If that needs an explanation, you aren't.)

   :applause:

I knew this was somewhere in the pipeline, but last time I heard the release date was unknown. Good news. And one of the bows is indeed for Elizabeth Callahan.

Dudjom Rinpoche's collected works

Can anyone point me to a list of the contents of all 25 volumes? I've only found lists mentioning the contents of a few of them.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Hats in the Tibetan Monastic Traditions

I head somewhere (source forgotten, sorry) that the Gampopa hat was made to resemble the mountain behind Daklha Gampo Monastery. Far fetched, perhaps, but I did hear it somewhere.

It looks like it's supposed to say Om A Hung Thank you for that. So what exactly does "Om A Hung" mean? :namaste: Body, speech and mind of the Buddha is a good start. As Cone says you may well find it written, usually in red ink, on the back of a proper thangka, behind the head, throat and heart of...

Re: Only thirteen buddhafields?

In mahayana there is an inmeasurable number of nirmanakaya and sambhogakaya buddhafields, but in dzogchen there are only thirteen buddhafields (zhing khrams) is this correct? Not really. The scheme of 13 bodhisattva levels, going to Buddhahood and beyond, is common. The number of buddhafields is mi...

Re: White Tara Mantra

Your practitioner friend is correct. As a general rule (there are, of course, exceptions) it is held that mantras that are taught in the sutras do not require empowerment. Equally, as a general rule, in most cases there are empowerments, and it is held that the practice will be more effective if the...

Monastic support in Tibet and diaspora

I'm hoping to find somebody with actual knowledge of the way things were and are actually done. Not so much interested at this stage in theory or questions of what "should" happen. My understanding (which is really no more than a general impression) is as follows. I've listed it in "point" form in t...

As you see there is quite a bit to choose from. FWIW my own recommendation would be the one first mentioned by kirtu, i.e. https://www.shambhala.com/buddha-nature.html. A huge amount of careful work went into its preparation.

Re: Receiving both Buddhist & Bön Dzogchen teachings?

The main problem you will have is reconciling the mutually exclusive historical viewpoints of Bon and Buddhadharma. Otherwise, there is no conflict. Agreed. My background is primarily Kagyu/Nyingma, but I did take several teachings from a Bon lama. I liked and respected him, and his community, but ...

Hey did you know this is just a continuation of cyberbullying? No, we did not know that, because it isn't. Claims are made - we want confirmation. That's normal. It's failing to do due diligence that let Sogyal Lakar get away with things for so long. Recognized as a third, late, tulku of Terton Sog...

Re: Ngakpa International - Vajrayana Training

I wonder why the people on dharmawheel keep trying to harass her. Yes, she has a super long Tibetan name with multiple variants, but so do all Tibetan Buddhists. The beneficial thing about using one’s refuge name or titles is that these have meanings that support one’s practice. Some people choose ...
