False Memories and Questionable Buddhist Lore

I have two memories of teachings by the Buddha and their import that I wish to confirm as I can't track them down and at 67 I may be misremembering badly. I would be very grateful for references to the accurate sources for my sloppy memory. First is a teaching where he "says" "There have been Religi...

The Mahãsaṃnipãta

Is anyone familiar with the Mahãsaṃnipãta? I found only a wiki Mahãsaṃnipãta stub. It seems to be a Mahāratnakūṭa or Avataṃsaka tyle anthology of sūtra, some with independent lives of note. I find that it contains the source of the 3 Ages of the Dharma theory.

Re: Dreloma decides 487 bce

Actually the 404 Error and 407 BCE dates are very important. They link up to 'recorded history' in the secular sense. I will have to dig deep to get the pdf version of the paper, but an ancient monastic site found a few years back contained lists of two parallel monk lineages back in a convincing wa...

A Complete Translation Bodhisattvabhumi (crosspost)

I cross posted this for the purpose of dissection as opposed to praxis. With the 1st [mundane] half of the Sravaka Pathalready fully explicated a good snapshot of pre-rupture Buddhism is finally available. It is interesting the whole of the Bodhi Path is slipped conceptually like a note into the poc...

Bhikshu Dharmamitra and Kalivinka Press

I have been rather sequestered since my quad bypass and recovery. Now I have reformatted my life here I wanted to start checking out my old haunts. I especially was concerned to see a search on this site's search engine and Google have showed little on Bhikshu Dharmamitra.... except a Red China oper...

Re: Bhikshu Dharmamitra's Plans

Do you know if anything will emerge on Kalavinka in the near future? Also, in that there are many fine translators here.... In the topic of the 2 verses 1 Vasubandhu, don't proficient readers get a mental ear sense saying "yup, this is my guy"?, I mean by style rather than arguments about content. :...

Thank you. The the map of the BBh path is a grid DL says is visible in that Kuiji commentary, a grid I don't have the background to really derive. I tried.

. I am not so wise that I can parse viewpoints so finely, Hah! You are a dude I'd ask when stumpt. especially when the Mahayana views are all adequate to inspire one on the Buddha path. That's an interesting responce... really deeper than it may seem. The Buddha himself eshewed discrimination...

Re: Ornament of the Great Vehicle Sutras

Try ordering the dissertaion by D’AMATO, Mario. “The Mahayana-Hinayana Distinction in the Mahāyānasūtrālaṃkāra: A Terminological Analysis.” of Chicago, 2000. I have used it to orient my look at this text. Almost evey paragraph is a way of looking at what I thought I knew about my religion. The Mahāy...
