Re: Prayers for beings in the Beast/Animal realm

Actually, can Admins please lock this thread? I'm going to post a more general question about prayers/offerings for beings in the lower realms and there might be some overlap. My original question has been answered above.

Re: Prayers for beings in the Beast/Animal realm

Thank you to all who responded. For background, I'm dealing with a difficult person trapped in a cycle of short-sighted anger that is very similar to the state of animals as described in the Buddhist tradition. Similar to a lot of those in the lower realms, actually. This person is for the short ter...

I am unsure if you're making a point or requesting prayers for your father. Do you mind clarifying?

I don't mean specific animals/beasts, for what it's worth. Just those that have found rebirth in that realm.

Prayers for beings in the Beast/Animal realm

It was suggested that I seek out some prayers to recite for beings trapped in the Beast Realm. Is there such a thing? I know there are a wealth of rituals and prayers for hungry ghosts. Alternatively maybe all the lower realms in one go?

Thanks!

So consciousness is like water, taking the form of what's in it at the moment?

Is there a dharma poetry mega-thread?

Hello all, So I looked for a mega-thread where people posted dharma poetry (they wrote or otherwise), but I could not find one. I've been writing a fair amount of poetry lately and would love to start sharing it with other dharma practitioners and also reading the poetry of others. So three question...

Am I Enlightened Yet?

What is a realization? I really want to know. And if I get a realization, Will I have to let it go? That kinda seems unfair The realization's mine! At least it will be if I get it on time I need to get one soon I have other things to do And I only have 3 minutes left And then my session's through Th...

I am so happy I did not give in to craving. The spike in cravings passed and I'm feeling thankful for my new sober life.

Thank you all for the support!

I wish there was a DW Discord. Unfortunately it'd be more work for the moderators if it was a public thing. So I'll just wish for that and infinite mod time/energy.

Re: Quitting alcohol. Dharmic advice?

What dharmic practices do people recommend for strengthening resolve/determination when overcoming addiction? I am on day 3 of not drinking and it's about now I throw in the towel and start drinking again. I'd like to take a break for awhile to see what it's like, but I am just thinking about it in...

Making Dharma Friends (quarentine edition)

Hello all! I would like to make more dharma inspired/virtuous friends. My original plan was to just show up at dharma talks and meditations and hope to meet people. However, that's sort of out the window for the time being (and I'm likely going to be socially distant for a bit longer than required a...

You should fear the deep disappointment in case of failure. Keep going! Thank you for the advice and encouragement! I think in the grand scheme of things I am still early into this journey and should expect some hard day's. I think it was Johnny at some point who was mentioning developing preparedn...

Re: Quitting alcohol. Dharmic advice?

I'm back in the rhythm of things with practice, and the course I'm taking at Sravasti Abbey is awesome, but... The last two days of alcohol sobriety have been the hardest yet and I have no clue how I got through them. I really hope this lets up soon. The re-establishing of a daily practice I think h...

Fun fact. Sometimes in electronics the brightness or dimmness of an LED is controlled by changing how fast you're pulsing between on and off.

Working for a Gambling Company

Many years ago, I worked for an online casino. At the time I had all kinds of justifications for how what I was doing was morally sound, but over time those justifications have sort of seemed less honest. While I believe poker is a game of skill and more of a sport (and there are numbers that prove ...

Okay can anybody here actually cite some credible source if it is actually bad for a cat to take a sip? If you go to credible sources, you find the opposite being stated. Mental process last night "wow, this bleeding thumb is scaring me, I wish I could get drunk... Oh that's probably a good thing I'm not going to."

Not making dumb decisions out of craving is great!
