Re: Question about Khenpo Gangshar's vivid awareness

Here is what Traga Rinpoche had to say on the subject: Ultimate truth is the original nature, which is the dharmadhatu, the suchness of phenomena. It is referred to as emptiness, mahamudra, or mahasandhi, the perfect nature. It is realized only by the noble ones. It is the self aware primordial wis...

Re: Indian Vajrayana

I know this sub-forum's title says "Tibetan Buddhism". :-) I would really love to know more about Indian Vajrayana the way it was practiced in the time of Indian Buddhist Mahasiddhas, like Tilopa, Saraha, Padmasambhava etc.. Is is still alive? Any good books (in English) on the subject? T...

Re: Question about Khenpo Gangshar's vivid awareness

When practicing vivid awareness as taught by Khenpo Gangshar, if I follow his instruction to stay in the present moment without any trace of past (memory, resonance) or future (anticipation), my sense of continuity drops away and I am left with what feels like a succession of quick "snapshots&...

Re: Question about Khenpo Gangshar's vivid awareness

There is a possible misunderstanding of taking it literally as if there was a singular awareness that can be aware of itself, which is not possible. Your Dzogchen quotes refute this. This idea, mind cannot take mind as an object, is a Mahayana scholar idea, made most famous in Shantideva. In the ta...

Re: Question about Khenpo Gangshar's vivid awareness

Thanks, very clear. How does awareness of awareness fit into the above? The friend of mine who suggested I try Gangshar's vivid awareness said that this is what Gangshar is talking about: to be aware of awareness itself. Which doesn't negate objects, but doesn't attend to them either. One attends t...

Re: Question about Khenpo Gangshar's vivid awareness

You should just tune into Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche's webcasts. There are lots of them. Any suggestions for where to start? Thanks. The next World Wide Transmission of Anniversary of Guru Garab Dorje. He will give extensive explanation of direct introduction of Dzogchen. But next transmission will be ...

Re: Question about Khenpo Gangshar's vivid awareness

First of all, an awareness without object is a fiction, it is only a theory, a false concept of self. When there is no duality of subject and object it means that one does not reify a self and a thing, and by grasping on one there is always the other, that's why Buddhism is not a monism nor a duali...

Re: Question about Khenpo Gangshar's vivid awareness

I hate to sound trite or dismissive but... you really need the guidance of a qualified teacher to truly experience this "vivid awareness" that Khenpo Gangshar is speaking of. Rigpa, mind essence, luminous clarity, vivid awareness... all of these catch phrases are things that cannot be des...

Re: Rejecting an Offering

Yesterday I did something kind for someone and in return they offered me something I didn't need. It was obvious to me that they could clearly use this thing in the future and that I didn't need it, wouldn't even use it because it was a coupon for free food that I wouldn't eat. I told them that I r...

Re: Two levels of compassion: is it possible?

Is it possible to exhibit extreme compassion for one particular group of sentient beings in this world to help them in their worldly suffering, at the risk of overall bodhicitta (if I use the word correctly)? Can one perform work as a nurse, child or homeless welfare worker, animal rescuer, out of ...

I love my gurus more than anyone. The blessing of dharma surpasses any worldly joy. I most certainly would never have had such experiences on my own. What I feel in my heart is indescribable pure ecstasy.

Re: Rajapadanam sasanam- the king is the first donor

Even today rich Taiwanese are the main sponsors of all kinds of Buddhism. But who do they sponsor? The higher lamas. If we want others to spread the wealth, it is our responsibility to attain realization. Then of course the wealthy will benefit and give donation to support dharma.

It's not just nothingness. It's bliss. It's bliss and nothingness and that's why it's beyond words.

Like today is guru day. Guru Rinpoche promised to appear to anyone who call him. But he's not somewhere hearing something and get in his sleigh like Santa Claus. He established this cause in his human form. So this form has this benefit. Nice, thanks for that DBH, do you have a source for this plea...

Re: Rainbow body

Yogini tantras also have the result of rainbow body leaving onl hair and nails, and great transference. Great post, deepbluehum. How do the methods for rainbow body in the Yogini tantras differ from in Dzogchen? The difference only seems like a difference from dualism vision. In dzogchen the Bindu ...

Re: Rainbow body

There's very little actual understanding happening here. Just a lot of guessing. To understand rainbow body you have to understand the base. It's emptiness. There's no body. The Buddha Dharmakaya has no form. The form kayas are practitioners' level. The sambhog is the energy that recognizes Dharmata...

Re: The concept of being already perfect

The three kayas are complete, but we are in dualistic vision. Though the ocean is to the left we have the habit of going right. There's nothing in the way except this habit.
