Re: Belief in god increases with age.
I think people eventually realize that material means nothing and provides no lasting happiness and as the years go by we question who we are and come to the realization we are going to die thus questioning our hearts intentions. Meeting death with a lighter heart is a better risk than the consequen...

Re: Are religious Americans really this stupid?
The church has got alot to answer but fighting fire with fire doesnt work. the future of buddhism looks healthier than the future of the vatican and the present is a product of the past

Do you know love
Hi All,
Has your path changed you?
Has your path made you a more loving person?
Did love come through years of practice or through an explosive realisation?
I believe we are here to know love. Maybe nirvana is all encompassing love. I had intense moments of love but there are fleeting.

Re: losing yourself in buddhism
I guess we are almost spoilt for choice. Its a little like asking a child what chocolate bar the want at the shop, the decision is too much! Im always asking myself should i have studied the alternative route instead. I think it was Sogyal Rinpoche that said the mind is like a flea jumping from one p...

I usually just watch the breathe but ive started reciting om mani padme hum which seems to work better for me. i am finding that the mantra occupies the space where the mental chatter is in my head whereas with the breathe the mental chatter often overpowers ...

Thanks Greg,
Just the endorsement i was looking for
Have / Do any of you walk the path without a teacher?
We have some great teachers online these days on youtube etc and forums for asking our questions. In my ignorance im asking if it is necessary to have a teacher.

Re: losing yourself in buddhism
Thanks,
Maybe thats my problem. I have attended Therevadan and Tibetan buddhist groups but dont seem to get much out of them. Maybe i need to be more patient and try and ignore the restlessness.

losing yourself in buddhism
Hi all, I often find that i am distracted by the different concepts / ideas and processes of the various schools of buddhism. As a result i find i go round in circles. I often wonder whether i am doing the right thing. I have come to the conclusion that all i need to do is.... study and practice the...

Re: The hardest thing in the world
i can definately see why people may think Buddhism is a negative practice though. Facing your ego, warts and all is very unsettling. I guess that once one gets over the realization that this is not YOU but your EGO then the misery turns to bliss and maybe thats where the real work starts and the end...

Re: The hardest thing in the world
I like the idea of the buddha in me exposing my faults. waking me up from this world of delusion. maybe i should rejoice in the exposure and see this as a positive thing.
