Re: The Dog's Tooth.
But aren't all sounds one and the same? I mean, what's the point of correct pronunciation if all sound is the same? Couldn't you just use swear words instead of mantras? Makes things easier and understandable, especially if you want to be free from samsara. Until you actually realize it, all sounds ...

Re: Rabbit's Horns
Just as the horns on rabbits' heads, Do not exist except in the imagination, Phenomena are all precisely like that, Merely imagined, having no existence. - Dharmadhātustava So many things are "merely imagined." I have been wanting to bring up the topic of imagination in tantra in any case...

Re: The DJKR Topic
I remember the thrill of having a Tibetan name given to me. The delights of discovering momos and Tibetan tea. But it is all too easy to stay there. To become a play Tibetan. To be weekend Tibetans. Yes, I would agree. Perhaps most of the people simply are not ready to be authentic practitioners. M...

People say that you must see life like a dream. But Buddha said, "I am awake." Awake, not dreaming. Wake up people!

My personal feeling is that an 11 year old can't really be said to have "Trained" in any major way in practice. No matter who one's teacher is. I'm sure there are exceptions.
I would agree. That's why I put "training" in quotes.

Yes, JKCL. My most sincere apologies. Hmmm, guess I have to rethink the family link thing.conebeckham wrote: ↑Thu Nov 09, 2017 10:25 pmYes, JKCL. He died in 1959, when Sogyal Rinpoche was 10 or 11 years old.

Re: A different look at Guru Yoga
It's more than just "saving face" I think. One of the things that has not been mentioned is the family connection. Sogyal Rinpoche was raised "like a son" by Dudjom Rinpoche as he (Sogyal Rinpoche) so often said. He used to sleep in a small bed at the foot of Dudjom Rinpoche's be...

Re: A different look at Guru Yoga
It's no wonder that the lamas tell you to stick to only one teacher. These guys don't agree on very much apparently. It certainly was simpler in old Tibet. Your parents "surrendered" you to a local monastery and you learned that way, end of story. You didn't have any say in this because yo...

The Heart of Compassion: The Thirty-seven Verses on the Practice of a Bodhisattva by Dilgo Khyentse So here the context is the five powers, and "faith" is the first. However, not all teachers uses the English term "faith" for this first point. Chogyal Namkhai Norbu presents it a...

Re: The DJKR Topic
My question is: does djkr have pure perception? Somehow this entire conversation would rest more easily with me if I could be sure that this is something he himself has 'accomplished' I guess we will never know but can only assume. Therein is the problem.

Re: The DJKR Topic
Of possible interest: https://tricycle.org/magazine/quit-guru-yoga/ Is there any evidence he practiced guru yoga in the first place? I remember quite well Stephen Batchelor speaking at Green Gulch Farm. At the 'tea on the deck' session afterwards I went up to him and asked him who his teacher was. ...
