Re: Wangdu prayer flags, and new vs old termas

With respect to older termas, and traditions, the problem is mainly that accumulation of broken samaya in the lineage overtime. On the other hand, if you receive an older terma or teaching on Lamdre for example, from a highly realized person, then it is the same as receiving a fresh terma. However,...

Re: Empowerment question Krodha Kali / Dudjom Tersar

The two main Dudjom Tersar Drolo practices discovered by Dudjom Rinpoche have the same lineage, the same mandala (pretty much), and the same mantra, but require different empowerments. Always wondered why but if it's like that with one Dudjom Tersar yidam, I imagine it would be the same for others. ...

Wangdu prayer flags, and new vs old termas

Two questions: Does anyone know where I might find prayer flags printed with Jamgon Mipham's Wangdu prayer, the Great Cloud of Blessings that Magnetises all that appears and exists? Second: in the now-locked thread about Sogyal, Malcolm said This is why my guru counseled me that is was best to pract...

Re: Very sad news

"but how we chceck? you have to participate on some event, that means, you will recieve teachings already, if no also initiation..." Good point. This speaks to the continually degenerating situation of the Dharma in this dark age. These days, the only time many students get to be with a Tea...

Re: Very sad news

I understand people's reluctance to comment on this issue and can also see how criticising a teacher like Sogyal can be strangley compelling and satisfying in some way. If ex-students shouldn't openly criticise a teacher because of samaya and non-students shouldn't because it's gossip, it's no wonde...

Re: Sam Harris, Musk Deer Hunter?

Right, the problem is that while he acknowledges all that, he frames it by telling people they will have to "swallow religious garbage" etc. to get there. It's kind of absurd to think that one could gain any confidence in what was transmitted if they thought the very vehicle that transmitted it was...

Re: Sam Harris, Musk Deer Hunter?

Near as I can tell, what Harris means by 'practicing Dzogchen' is actually just practicing shamatha without an object, nothing wrong with it, it's probably a great approach from people who are sick of years of "follow your breath", austere attitudes towards meditation, or body scan meditations gett...

Re: Sam Harris, Musk Deer Hunter?

I can't be bothered to look back through (or listen, as I had it on Audible) Waking Up, but my recollection is that Harris saw dzogchen and the teachings he received from Tulku Urgyen and others as the most important things he has ever been taught by anybody. He said that in a short space of time TU...

Re: Sam Harris, Musk Deer Hunter?

I think it's silly to claim people are fixating on the faults of others by examining a public figure think it's silly to claim people are not fixating on the faults of others when they clearly are. This issue with how SH talks about Dzogchen is that he presents it as simply a "technique" that one c...

Re: Sam Harris, Musk Deer Hunter?

Is not Patrul Rinpoche saying that by discussing others faults it is an opportunity for you to examine your own? ...so, then let's talk. No, he's saying to read the teachings about possible hidden faults and examine whether you have these faults rather than use the teachings to point out and discus...

Re: Sam Harris, Musk Deer Hunter?

I have to say I find it hilarious that there are people on his forums fretting because they can't find "secular" Dzogchen and Mahamudra teachers, i've actually read through some of those threads. It's hardly fair to judge Harris by what people say on his forums. Correct. But Harris has said enough ...

Re: Sam Harris, Musk Deer Hunter?

Well, thank you for getting back to my original point. He does recommend people seek teaching from actual Dzogchen teachers, but he also says, "One never knows how much religious nonsense one will be forced/asked to imbibe" when seeking such guidance. I'm paraphrasing Harris there a bit, not much, ...

Re: Sam Harris, Musk Deer Hunter?

Here are some opinions held by Sam Harris and his followers, you can decide what kind of person he is: What a completely dishonest sentence. Have you ever taken any vows not to lie? It would be far more honest to say, "here are some hit pieces on Sam Harris by his critics, who take out of context q...

Re: incarnation in families

Tulkus are born anywhere... look at the current Karmapa Orgyen Trinley Rinpoche.. Howeve with regard to families. Why not be reborn in favourable circumstances in a afmily of practitioners... Easier to pick up where you left off oerhaos. I know which i would choose. :spy: The current Karmapa and th...

Re: who's ngondro is it anyway

Suddenly, HH Dalai Lama was right in front of me and put a khata around my neck and pulled it tight. I woke up gasping for breath. Tulku Drakpa Gyaltsen was murdered with a white kata. Sounds like the Gyalpo to me. Yes, I know, but I'm not sure if I knew about the cause of Drakpa Gyaltsen's death a...

IMO, Gyalpo.
Well, yes. That's what I thought at the time, as well. But who knows? I remember one lama told me that when he had his photo taken with HH Dalai Lama, HH grabbed his neck really tightly, so maybe HH is prone to a bit of strangling?

Re: who's ngondro is it anyway

Siliguri is a pit. That's why. (Sorry--just had to toss that out there...) True, it is, a proper pit. But any worse than, say, Gorakpur? Specified locations in dreams are odd, especially as I had never spent too long in Siliguri. I only ever used it as a way of getting to Kathmandu. Anyway, maybe I...

Re: who's ngondro is it anyway

It represents the elimination of obstacles. Likewise, if you dream of monks, it is usually a sign of gyalpo provocation. Thanks, Malcolm. I dreamt that my lama had died years ago, and it really shit me up. I also had a dream of a "well-known" monk who went to strangle me with a khata and that shit ...
