Pure Vision and Renunciation
https://youtu.be/qmvRQ79OOwM?si=lQgzrWSP4XOsq9e8&t=1964 Sorry if this is a simple question but if Samsara is Nirvana and everything is pure then where is the place for Renunciation? We wouldn't have the strength of renunciation in Theravada right? What reason would we have to not be hedonists? B...

Oh I've got a worldly-Dakini detection system alright :emb: In all seriousness, I think that Malcolm once posted here that there's no such thing as a 'worldly Dakini', not in the sense that most would think anyway. But for argument's sake, perhaps a female who has received Empowerment yet hasn't ye...

Re: Would Mahayana Buddhist ethics be too extreme?
One point that I have always had difficulty accepting is the ethics that some Buddhist masters espouse, condemning people from engaging in negative actions even when it is necessary to preserve their own lives and the lives of their family. It seems to me that Theravada masters have a more lenient ...

The Hundreds of Deities of the Joyful Land should be done. Lama Chopa is also excellent if you have an annuttarayoga tantra empowerment.

Re: 48 vows of Amitabha Buddha
The other day, I thought "isn't it just rejoicing?" If you rejoice in a Buddha's merit, you receive half. So chanting the name creates merit and a karmic connection with Amitabha.
I've never read this anywhere, it's just my thoughts.

From the sutra "Ushnishavijaya dharani sutra": If birds, animals and other sentient beings hear this Dharani once, they will never again be reborn in these impure and gross body forms once their lives have ended.” Does it actualy mean that by listening to this dharani, I will never be reb...

Re: Lama Zopa Rinpoche has passed away.
Might be particularly relevant now, David Gonzalez wrote about a dream in his autobiography he had that HH Dalai Lama motioned David near and whispered like he was telling him a secret "Zopa Rinpoche is a Mahayana Arhat [fully Enlightened]".

I remember reading that Dr. Berzin said Serkong Rinpoche displayed impermanence to prevent obstacles to HH Dalai Lama's life. I wonder if this is the same situation.

If you ask your lama for a few instructions in private, you are likely to get only a few words. Not only that, you might even get a harsh scolding. This is a characteristic of our real Dharma teachers. Kyabje Rinpoche said, "When the Dharma teacher is sitting on a throne, he will teach everyth...

Studying the so called preliminaries. Although there are many dharmas in general, to become a cause for liberation you must have renunciation, bodhichitta, and the view [of emptiness]. These days I don't see people with experience of these three, and even a proper understanding is quite rare. A comp...

Re: Reasons to take refuge in the three jewels
There are four reasons why the Buddha is worthy to be a refuge. First, he has mastered himself and attained the sublime state of fearlessness. If he had not attained this, he would not be able to protect others from all fears, just as a person who has already fallen down cannot help up someone else...

Re: Quesion about Guru Yoga Commentary from Lama Zopa Rinpoche
It may be worth noting that Kyabje Zopa Rinpoche's definition of the guru is a person from whom you have received teachings on even a few lines of dharma, even as little as an oral transmission. This accords with the traditional lam-rim teachings (which to be fair are geared towards preparing stude...
