Re: Dzogchen and Zen on enlightenment and post-enlightenment

It is an accepted scheme in this sub forum. Yes, of course, but you were talking about someone wanting to practice Buddhadharma and comparing traditions to determine a best choice. It would therefore seems reasonable to consider other schemes as well, no? Well, this thread is in the Dzogchen forum,...

This is not a universally accepted scheme, Norwegian, and one I don't find persuasive or practical at all. But horses for courses.

Re: Dzogchen and Zen on enlightenment and post-enlightenment

It is a futile exercise to compare the two, as there are (as far as I know) no people alive who are sufficiently advanced and knowledgeable practitioners in both systems to be able to contrast them from experience. So all we can do is compare language in texts and make conjectures - which can be in...

Re: Pointing-Out-Instructions and Zen

Interesting. My first pointing out instruction came from a book called, "Self-Liberation Through Seeing With Naked Awareness." But I was heavily criticized for this, so I got it done by a teacher. Dzogchen students are very sensitive about the idea that the teacher empowers the pointing out instruc...

Re: Swat Valley/Oddiyana

Im curious, if there is any evidence of vajrayana being practiced in Swat valley and Tajik, ectr, or not? As for Shambala: in text is Shambala described north to Oddiyana. Actualy, there is a city in Orissa called Shambalpur till today... Did you read Orgyen Rinchenpal's travel accounts as linked b...

Re: Swat Valley/Oddiyana

blah Distance is not really an issue. Alexander the Great managed to get from Macedonia to the west bank of the Ganges by horse and foot. Distance is definitely one issue, but another more important issue is that none of the locations and directions described in the original texts cited by Malcolm ...

Re: Swat Valley/Oddiyana

Unfortunately the Sahu book is impossible to come by. Rinpoche managed to get a photocopy a few decades back, but he keeps it stashed back in Sarnath. Hopefully when I visit him next year... You can buy the book here, used, and not in the best quality. But if you really want it... Took me 10 second...

Re: Swat Valley/Oddiyana

So, spoke to Rinpoche and he told me that he is not the only scholar that disagrees with the placement of Oddiyna in Swat Valley. Rinpoche was influenced in this decision by the research of N.K. Sahu, whom he met. Sahu wrote an apparently well researched, but now difficult to find book: Buddhism in...

Re: Do Nichiren Buddhists believe in God?

This is Buddhism. We are agnostics. The Buddha wasn't. How? I mean when he was a great teacher he was agnostic, not as a prince or an aesthetic(perhaps Jain or your typical Hindu). Either way, we shouldn't take refuge in worldly deities. agnostic: "a person who believes that nothing is known or can...

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

The aforementioned book itself is restricted and you need to have received DI from ChNN before you can order it.

As for the retreat itself, it is marked as an open webcast. It will not have direct introduction, and seems to be focusing on the aspect of shamatha only.

Re: Who is America ?

Seems love does work. Love takes sacrifice, endurance and patience. It didn't seem to help Gay people, Jews, Gypsies, and so on in Nazi Germany very much. They didn't stand a chance. The world stood by and watched. Gandhi, the much celebrated pacifist, had the following suggestion for the Jews duri...

Re: Charging for Dharma

Vajrayāna is also not socialist. I would agree that no -ists or -isms apply. Well, the social and political model of Vajrayāna is the family. Guru and consort are the parents, disciples are the children. One cannot belong to some family simply because one demands admittance. And this is a very impo...

Yes, if you attended it, of course. But it is released. Check SSI store. Good to know, thanks! I only find the general Longsal volumes when I search, it is contained in one of those? While it looks as though the text has been translated, it hasn't yet been published. Reference: http://www.shangshun...
