Re: Lineage in Nichiren

all of which opens up the hell gates of fake news.... No. Devadatta still suffers retribution for being a false teacher. In this world, he fell directly into Avici Hell alive - the ground opened up and he fell into the ground. Maybe he stumbled on a sink hole. However, once you learn that a teacher...

Re: If our honesty is hurtful to some, should we remain silent?

Hi everyone! So the reason I'm asking this question is because I currently am blogging about Nichiren Buddhism and I want to share a bit about my life, how I grew up and what I went through. My family has my blog address and I'm worried that my mother (whom I have an estranged relationship with) or...

Re: I lost my job today...

I chanted that I wouldn't but I did. I've been out quite a bit so it's my own fault but. I guess I was just hoping that my chanting would work and that they'd listen to my plea to keep my job. Maintain your faith in the Lotus Sutra and you will land a job ten times that which you lost. Nichiren tea...

Re: Shakabuku Woes

Malcolm doesn't understand Tiantai philosophy which involves ichinen sanzen 3,000 worlds in one thought moment. It's just a version of cittamatra, a.k.a, mind only. I don't think it's that simple. I recall reading Bertrand Russel suggest we only think in metaphors. Maybe more like tropes. "A is lik...

Re: Shakabuku Woes

like i said you have had almost a thousand years of degenerate times to build a plethora of Buddhas...show me the money... Go to Tibet. You will find many buddhas there. "In Tung-ch’un we read: “Question: While the Buddha was in the world, there were many who were resentful and jealous. But in the ...

Re: Shakabuku Woes

yeah well look up shakubuku... it means break and subdue... I know what shakubuku means. I have read all of Nichiren's Gosho. But being "forceful" or very determined to convert someone, doesn't mean confrontational, what do you think? Kevin True. It depends. If someone like Malcolm comes onto a Nic...

Re: Guru Yoga & Lamanism: Speculations on Shingon and Nichiren Schools

No Guru Yoga in Shingon??? "I take refuge in the Great Guru, the Vajra of all pervading spiritual radiance." -- Shingon prayer Who is kidding whom? I have no problem with Guru Yoga as long as the Guru is the most compassionate infinitely long Enlightened Master(s) in the History of the multiverse, S...

Some people I called Hobos, are just too lazy to actually look things up for themselves, or is it that they hate Nichiren and Mark Rogow? I think both. Hobos are great. Here's my evidence. Re: I chanted to have better relations with people and then something awkward happened between a friend and me?

Panentheistic ish. just to let you know this did not go by me lightly nice stuff. thanks :namaste: "The Venerable Maudgalyāyana put his faith in the Lotus Sutra, which is the greatest good there is, and thus not only did he himself attain Buddhahood, but his father and mother did so as well. And, a...

Re: Hongaku (Original Enlightenment) versus Hongaku Shiso (Medieval Tendai Original Enlightenment)

We always have to keep the threefold truth in mind and understand that it is implied in all lotus teachings. When we recite the ten factors, we repeat it three times to emphasize the three truths. It's actually a direct reference to Zhiyi's comments on the ten factors. When we talk about the Buddha...

Re: Lineage in Nichiren

As a trainee, maybe he is still ignorant about many aspects of Nichiren Shonin's thought, as his background is Tibetan Buddhism, he must be still attached to his former views from TB. But I always regarded exactly this point of simplicity and direct access to practice, in contrast to the views of o...

Re: Lineage in Nichiren

In Mohezhikuan, Zhiyi discusses the Six Identities (also Six Stages in SGI literature). The Verbal Identity (also The Stage of Hearing the Name and Words of the Truth) commences, "When you hear of the one true bodhi-wisdom ... whether from a teacher or from [reading] the scripture scrolls ." This s...

Re: Shakyamuni: A Narrative of Faith

There is quite a bit to unpack here, and I will be able to comment further after digesting more thoroughly. One question, however, immediately comes to mind: If the Eternal Buddha, described more accurately as a function rather than a personage, transcends our common notions of self, has sectarian ...

Re: Guru Yoga & Lamanism: Speculations on Shingon and Nichiren Schools

Under "Shingon" Wikipedia, we read: "Guru yoga Guru yoga (or "teacher practice") (Tibetan: bla ma'i rnal 'byor)[13] is a practice that has many variations, but may be understood as a tantric devotional process where the practitioners unite their mindstream with the mindstream of the guru. The guru i...

Re: Guru Yoga & Lamanism: Speculations on Shingon and Nichiren Schools

If Nichiren is a "Lamaist" school, than the Lotus Sutra is the "Lama" in question, more than any given person, even Nichiren. Just my two cents. Good! I have no problem with the Lama being The Master of Teachings Lord Shakya of the Original Doctrine who is the the Root Lama of all Lamas throughout ...
