Has anyone heard of this college? http://www.maitripa.org/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Its located in the city I live in, so I'm considering looking into classes there. If anyone knows anything about how its perceived, whether or not its considered respectable, lineages...

Re: Are sutra's to be taken literaly?
You will see that, aside from being the perfect self-enlightened one, the Buddha also employed a marvellous literary mind.

Re: Are sutra's to be taken literaly?
I can only speak for Theravada suttas, but the Lord Buddha always makes it very clear whenever he is using an analogy to be interpreted as an analogy. Otherwise suttas are intended to be taken literally.

Re: Wonderful Mysterious Yakkhas
I must say, I find it difficult to believe this kind of stuff. I suppose it can be a matter of personal experience. No one should be faulted for remaining incredulous about such things. Given my background and my education, if I had not had the strange experiences I have had, then no doubt I would ...

Re: How do demon like beings operate acording to Budhism?
@ Steveb1 Was going to reply to your post, but found Namdrol beat me to it - with exactly the same ideas! Indeed the serial killer found liberation, but through his own study and effort. All the Buddhas do is provide the pointing finger, but as you can tell from the story, your basic Buddha is very...

Re: a couple of questions, if i may...?
1. what does it mean when you dream of HH dalai lama? i read somewhere that it's not really a "dream"...? 2. what is the naga realm? I have no idea how rare or uncommon this is, but a person can indeed experience glimpses of previous lives in their dreams, though it's of the nature of the...

Re: Wonderful Mysterious Yakkhas
If you are a Dzogchen practitioner, Chogyal Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche has a couple of books (which are restricted to practitioners) that talk in greater depth about the eight classes of beings. Also, google eight classes of beings for some cursory material. I am Theravadin practitioner and student of ...

Re: How do demon like beings operate acording to Budhism?
Peace. Hi everyone. My understanding is that in Budhism there are teachings about the existence of demons and other evil beings. Now how do they operate and are they subject to karma? If they are subject to karma then are they us gone bad? I would appreciate your thoughts on the subject. Interestin...

Re: Wonderful Mysterious Yakkhas
You know, the more you concern yourself with these beings the greater the chance that you will come across them. In the zen tradition there is a koan that goes something like: I thought I knew a Persian with a red beard, now I know a Persian with a red beard. Since you seem to be obsessed with them...

Yakkhas originate or are ruled from the realm of the Devas of the Four Great Kings. This happens to be the realm once above this human realm. http://www.accesstoinsight.org/ptf/dham ... /loka.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Wonderful Mysterious Yakkhas
These magical little creatures are also variously known about the world as duendes, lutins, pukwudgies, fairies, leprechauns, goblins, or gnomes. Not very much is known about them but I do know they smoke tobacco. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Us0s9iD4KI&feature=youtu.be and http://www.youtube...
