Re: DNA TESTS

A friend of mine had the test done, she had some small surprises. More Irish than she thought, less Jewish, nothing major. In our discussion of the test, though, some questions arose about the consent she gave. Turns out the fine print allows companies to sell the acquired data for research and adve...

Re: Teaching about Not-Self in the movie Doctor Stranger

Bit of an aside here - Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays Doctor Strange, did a gap year after college and spent that time in Nepal teaching English to Tibetan monks. He still has contact with some of them, and maintains a meditation practice. Pictured here with Dilgo KhyentseYangsi Rinpoche whom he vi...

Re: US and Allies Launch Strikes on Syria

This may be a naive question, but doesn't bombing chemical weapons plants release the chemicals? Apparently not, per this report in the Guardian dated April 14. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/apr/14/trumps-attack-on-syria-is-not-without-risk-but-its-not-world-war-three . Re: Basic fitness

For overall basic fitness, you need to address strength, cardiovascular conditioning, and flexibility. My routine includes hand weights and some calisthenics at home 2-3x/week, walk at a brisk pace about 2 miles every day the weather permits, and yoga class twice a week. You can usually find inexpen...

Matthew, just to clarify, you're still quite young, right? if you're stressed about the pressure your mum puts on you perhaps you could explore it in a new thread about parental pressure. With respect, comparing parental pressure to rape take just makes it sounds like an anxty adolescent outburst t...

Re: deadliest mass shooting in the U.S.

Don't Americans demand people get licenses, pass a driving test, take medical exams and carry liability insurance for owning a motor vehicle? Why not firearms? Yes, those are requirements for a driving license. Not for firearms for the same reason there is no national firearms registry - because th...

Re: deadliest mass shooting in the U.S.

Again, if people could sue gun manufacturers the way Big Tobacco was sued, my guess is we either wouldn't be having this conversation, or we'd be having a much milder version of it. Agree. Up until now, manufacturers have gotten a pass on any sort of liability, and other corporations have basically...

...ummm...no...AR-15's are semi-auto not full auto, in other words one pull of the trigger = one round fired thereby making it virtually impossible to fire 13 rds per second...you must be thinking of the M-16 which can be fired full auto and is actually a military weapon. An AR-15 is not a military...

He brought evangelical Christianity out of the circus tents in the backwaters of the South into the White House. Thanks for that, now we're reaping the fruits of that unholy alliance. And his son Franklin is a menace. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/franklin-graham-followed-his-father-billy-s-f...
