Re: Cutting hair

It's not an idea, generally woman can only win a fight with a man by attacking the testicles. If she can also pull your long hippie hair then it will make her feel even less threatened. This is science people. Women view men as potential predators. Actually I view men as potential predators as well...

Less intimidating to men and women.

But if it's too long then you might make people nervous.
So short hair is intimidating?? Who knew?

Re: sexual harrassment & sexual assault in the US

one more thing about the empathy gap I was trying to describe above: the insights of trans people are really important to heed in conversations like this. Why? Well, because they are interesting and important in and of themselves. Also, because trans people have some experience of coping with both ...

Re: Giving Up Sugar and Junk Food

"Sugar" and carbohydrate are the same thing. Some sugars are refined, like white sugar, aka "added sugar," and should be avoided. Healthy carbs are an essential part of a balanced diet. There are a number of threads from a few months ago on this topic in this forum for examples of healthy carbs. Eli...

Europe doesn't seem to have this problem. A rising political star and member of parliament here in Switzerland just resigned due to stalking and some other related behaviour. https://www.swissinfo.ch/eng/politics/yannick-buttet_stalking-allegations-topple-swiss-politician/43726188 . ... even more uptight about sex. Um ... you want to live in a country that is more sexualized than the US? That's the problem, US is "Sexualized" but not "sexually mature." Two different things. Puritan background apparently precludes a mature attitude towards sex here, leading to perpetual adolesc...

Re: The Only Capitol of Israel

OK, the link gives a Christian perspective. A Wiki on "Tel Aviv" points out that part of Jerusalem is claimed as the capital by the Palestinians. So this is a straight up power play/grab. Got. it.

ETA D. beat me to it.

Re: The Only Capitol of Israel

I'm not following this story in the news, so I have no sage comments to offer, only a question - Why does Trump get to tell another country where their capital should be? I really don't get this. There's obviously a long game here - what is it?

Re: Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche

I attended a teaching a number of years ago at Tsechen Kunchab Ling in Walden, NY. His Eminence Ratna Vajra Rinpoche was the main teacher, DJKR also taught. Afterwards my two friends and I got in line to do the kata thing; we only had two katas, so I went first and planned to hand mine to the kata-l...

So you can be a good Tibetan Buddhist if you simply follow this rule?
Personally, my goal is not to be a "good Buddhist," Tibetan or otherwise. I just want to see clearly. Everything else is just labeling.

Of course, YMMV.

Re: In search of a teacher

There are a number of Tibetan Buddhist centers in the Boulder area, and quite a few retreat centers in Crestone, various lineages. Some will have a resident teachers, others have teachers who pass through yearly or more often. Not sure if any of these are Gelugpa, though.

Thank you for the long life prayer, Vasana.

HH Karmapa's official website mentions that HH is in New York for treatment, but the illness is not named.

Did some digging, just out of curiosity. Seems there are now only five communist countries remaining in the world - China, Cuba, Laos, North Korea, and Vietnam. The only major player there, China, changed the country's constitution in 2004 to recognize private property. And it seems like a capitalis...

When the person exercises and increases breathing rate and depth, greater amounts of air are exchanged. Here is more inform...

Re: Physical pain and anger

The human body typically responds to an external insult (ie, a sudden source of pain) with an autonomic nervous system jolt. A "fight or flight" reaction occurs with a big release of the adrenaline which would be needed. So an unexpected cat scratch can trigger an adrenaline rush, which your mind ma...
