Super long time ago, in the mid 90's i met an artist who had had a Lama write a mantra on him that he then inked over himself.
So depending on the Lama and the mantra, its probably Ok.

Re: Garchen Rinpoche's 2017 Teaching Schedule
Hello, I would like to accept H.E. Garchen Rinpoche as my Vajramaster. I tried contacting his organization recieved no response but am not sure how best to go about this. Any information would be appreciated. I apologize in advance if this is the wrong place to ask. Thank you for your time. The bes...

Re: 3 year retreat vs Daily life practice
Hi, I would like to ask you what you think is better nowadays and is faster in developing one's practice, practice integrated into daily life or three years retreat? There are several 3 year retreat places around the world now and I always wonder how to make it possible for me to attend one. But th...

Re: Meaning of colored wrist band
In Drikung, Garchen Rinpoche likes to give out Liberation upon Seeing/Wearing rubber bracelets. Different mantras on the outside and inside of the band. Some people also take regular protection cords and wear them on their wrist, sometimes braiding them together etc. Why not just ask someone who is ...

I'm doing one of them by time right now, with a group where we pool our accumulations together. However many we have finished by the end of 6 mo or a year, we call it done and move on to the next section.
Its a rather approachable format i'm finding.

Re: Crisis of Faith
if a method works, it works, doesn't really matter where it was sourced from. What comes to mind is the idea of motivation, as in what is the motivation behind the method being used? If the motivation is Bodhicitta and wisdom, doesn't really matter if the method is mindful public toilet cleaning. Wh...

Re: Should your Yidam be of your lineage
If you've taken multiple complete Wangkurs, you may find that your flower toothpick lands on different "families" at different times That's true and I've always wondered how and why that is. Also what does toothpick mean in this context? Ah, should have said flower or toothpick. In some P...

Re: Bronze vs Iron Phurba
Did anyone attend the 2012 or late 2012/early 2013 Vajrakilaya teachings in AZ either online or in person? I'm remembering that there were some instructions on using the phurba but the stream was so bad that it cut out in the middle of the instructions. I'm guessing summer 2012. Something about an ...

Re: Bronze vs Iron Phurba
Garchen Rinpoche is incredibly kind in transmitting the empowerment via webcast. I have also received it several times. I'd be interested to see what advice he gave on the use of the phurba if you have a link. :) I had the good fortune of receiving this empowerment from Garchen Rinpoche about this ...

Re: Wrathful Deities
Its also used for one of the four modes of taming beings. (peace, increasing, magnetizing & subjugation) No actual anger or what we think of normally as wrath here. Mind of a Buddha who presents in flames same as the mind of a Buddha who presents in beauty. No selfish ego, so no one to be angry.

Re: Chanting in English
Chanting in English can sound like the participants are trying out for the Klingon Army Chorus if the text is not metered. In the case of non-metered text, i've heard people 'chanting' in a monotone that is a bit annoying. However one zen center near me kinda figured it out, and had rules for varyin...

You guys are funny. Wear whatever you want. Don't worry so much about what anyone thinks.
Just practise, develop Bodhicitta and turn the mind toward being of benefit to beings.
The rest will fill in as needed.

While you're searching, send your aspiration to meet an authentic teacher out there as strongly as you can. Have it ride the intention to help all sentient beings.
It might take a little time to return, but it will return.

Re: Conception and Contraception
If you're not in possession of a uterus, any argument on this subject is moot. Drives me nuts when guys want to make laws controlling contraception and access to safe medical procedures that don't affect them. THis is the territory of the christian religious right, and it bothers me greatly to see t...
