Identifying two statues

Greetings! I saw these two statues in the Rainbow Bazaar in Oahu. I don't recognize which buddhas or bodhisattvas they depict. The eight-armed statue appears to be holding a lotus and vajra, among other things. The red fellow may be in the Japanese style.

Thanks for your help!

Re: Purification for C

If I can get through the instructions I will try as you ask. Thanks. Even reading the instructions is very generous of you! It's a wonderful practice to do regularly, both for oneself and others. C is doing much better. The firing/eviction were hallucinations. Now his friends and family are showing...

Re: anti-"Hinayana" bias in Zen (and Mahayana in general)

Triumphalism is common among Buddhist schools. It's a way to engender confidence in the specific school you're practicing. Some find the approach helpful, others don't. Consider what is being addressed in critiques of "Hinayana" instead: self-centered practice. It's a pitfall for all Buddhists, incl...

Re: If one dies while asleep?

If you're sincere in practice, you're already preserved from the lower realms. And of course the buddhas and bodhisattvas will help you when you die, no matter the details.

Re: Tonglen question

As far as tonglen making your life a blessing for others, showing them the transformation that Dharma has on ordinary people, its impact on their karma is immeasurable. They have made contact with a seed of Dharma, the cause of their own future liberation. As far as tonglen making you perform the si...

Re: Hello from Serbia

Welcome!

Your post sounds very familiar indeed. I was initially drawn to the Quakers and the Desert Fathers. I wanted to see and know things first-hand.
And now here I am, some years later

I hope you enjoy your time on DharmaWheel.

Tervetuloa!

Yes, life seems to really pick up in your 30s! I'm 32 and can't believe how challenging the last few years have been.
Buddhism has been a great help to me... and the people who have to be around me every day.

See you around the forum :hi:

Re: Is tibetan inherently peacefull ?

I view karma as a teaching to guide our thoughts, words, and actions towards the results that will actually benefit others. It's a teaching for our own lives. If we speculate about others, it's all too easy to fall into discussing their errors and faults. Karma isn't the only thing like this. If you...

Re: Is it an oxymoron for a Nichiren Buddhist to be Republican?

It is counterproductive for any Buddhist to cherish X identity over their desire to save all beings.
But others' delusions are not our concern until we're buddhas.
Until then, my own constant stream of BS is plenty to manage.

paṇḍaka The term "sissy" seems to be a best fit, given context of usage, in the same way that the English word "thing" is for the word "dharma." I might be very wrong, but there's my contribution. May this whole awakening thing spread and prosper. :namaste: "sissy" strikes me as homophobic....

Re: Scanning Library Books

And there are plenty of Dharma books available for free distribution online. It also couldn't hurt to see your need as an opportunity. Many temples give Dharma books away or sell them very cheaply. You could buy or request them with the intention of making a donation to your local library. In my own...
