Wise beginnings, advice requested!

I am extremely interested in Vajrayana, would anyone be willing to help guide me towards the correct method for finding a realized, and accomplished teacher of this sort practice?? I've heard that these can be dangerous if done without the guidance of such a teacher, and as I've only got one body, I...

Using mantra practice to attain Dhyana Samadi?

Does anyone here know of any information, or resources about using mantra practice to attain Dhyana/Jhana concentration? I think I've heard of it as Japa, at some point, but I'm almost completely unsure of any real details.

Re: Cundī Dhāraṇī questions

Thanks for the replies Adamantine and Minjeay =) I would also be curious about any other Mantra information as well. Like the Medicine Buddha Mantra for example, has anybody seen the healing ability of this mantra first hand? I would particularly still love to hear more about the Zhunti/Cundi Mantra...

Cundī Dhāraṇī questions

So here is the link I'm reading my information from, http://sutrasmantras.info/sutra02.html I was wondering if the various prayer rituals combined with the Mantra recitations provide the results that they say they do, in the gross or material sense of the scripture I suppose. I recite the Mantra bec...

Re: What are you looking for?

In "Working Towards Enlightenment" and "To Realize Enlightenment", Master Nan Huai Chin kept quoting from a book, or book serie??(not sure)??, called "Record or Records of Pointing at the Moon" I don't think it's been translated into English, I'd still like to get my hands on a copy though. I'm taki...

Re: Greetings! Meditation position advice?

I've heard about people meditating in traffic too. It seems like a great way to spend time in an otherwise frustrating place/situation. Walking meditation is something I've always wanted to get into as well, I have a few nice quiet parks that would be good for it. Can anyone describe how to do the p...

Re: Meditation is hard...

Torpor and Lethargy are definitely a large hindrance in my practice atm. It's really annoying. I mostly try to improve my Anapana practice at the moment, and it gets vary hard to stay focused on the breath. The Lethargy kind of comes and goes in waves too, it'll settle away and I'll be able to focus...

Re: Meditation is hard...

there are the 9 stages of meditation, 10 if you include stage 0 at stage 0 the person suffers from "lethargy" which is a heavy feeling in the mind that prevents you from decisively distinguishing the object. stage 1 starts when lethargy is overcome and there is a clear and decisive intention to fin...

Re: Meditation is hard...

I'll most definitely give these a try sir, thanks for the input. On a sort of side note, I heard that meditating outside around 4:30 in the morning is really helpufll. Supposedly trees switch back over to producing massive amounts of fresh air during this time and it's very beneficial for meditation...

Re: Meditation is hard...

Does anyone have any advice on how to correct a dreamy meditation state? It's really hard for me to describe accurately, other than It's like I'm in a waking dream. Much like actual dreams It's difficult to actually control whats going on. It's really difficult to bring my mind back to being mindful...

Re: Meditation is hard...

Thank you all for posting! I'm going to try to digest and apply the advice I've learned from you all. I've got a few questions on some of the responses. What is a "Water Bowl Offering"? Also, I don't really have a lineage. I've obtained most of my knowledge from reading the work of Master Nan Haui C...

Re: Meditation is hard...

I've been meditating for about 1 year now, and I've recently re-affirmed myself to practice more this year. In the past, I've mostly attempted a practice regimen of Anapana and the White Skeleton meditation. I'm terrible at both of them, to be quit honest. I would still like to keep practicing them...

Re: Remaining confirmed Enlightened Masters.

I'd recommend searching the forums here -- you should come up with a few threads where people talk about certain masters who may be enlightened. There may be others like me who, out of respect for their teachers, do not announce them on web forums, but who will be happy to discuss them privately. ....

Re: Remaining confirmed Enlightened Masters.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, it is strictly my belief that cultivation is a Spiritual Science that belongs to many, MANY religions. It seems like there is a VAST amount of well written and descriptive vocabulary on the subject of measuring spiritual attainment. Chakras, skandas, siddhas, streams...

Some general questions on Anapana!

So I need some help understanding this meditation, there are SO many sources on this subject and each source seems to have it's own variation. This is what I've gleamed, and please correct me if I'm wrong. One is supposed to begin counting their breaths from 1-10, focusing on their nose in the sense...

Re: Remaining confirmed Enlightened Masters.

From what i've heard, no one can afford the licensing these days. Not entirely sure I understand. If it's a joke I don't get it, full of Christmas Turkey and more than a bit tired atm. Maybe I'll get it tomorrow? Though I recognize and believe in everyone's inherent ability to attain these things, ...

Re: Remaining confirmed Enlightened Masters.

Though I recognize and believe in everyone's inherent ability to attain these things, I am not at that level. Much more meditation work to do. In between the cultivation work, I think about ways to further my progress. It's why I'm bringing my questions to the super-electronic metaphysical fiber- op...
