Re: termas found outside of asia?

Just to clarify things a little... :)

An example of inverse cultural appropriation would be saying

"If it's nae Scottish, it's crap!"

I leave the evaluation of the truth value of the above statement as an exercise.

Re: Best resource on empowerment details

I've been going over posts on this site, and Malcolm's posts on the details of empowerment (what's actually going on, the requirements, etc.) are the best I've ever read. Are there any good books or other resources out there that explain empowerments to the same level of detail? Specifically, I'm l...

And they named it Laniakea? Wow, cultural appropriation on a cosmic scale! It's a nifty idea though, that idea of gravitional "watersheds".

Re: Buddha speaks the Sutra of the Father of Christmas

Then the Great One of the Santayana arose, and placing a finger aside his nose in the mudra of ascension, prepared to leave. At this time his faithful companion of many years, Baldric, spoke. "What, you're not going to bleedin' LEAVE us here to freeze, are you?" And there was grumbling, es...

At the end of the day, I trust the engineers when I fly, I trust the doctors when I have a body problem and I trust the Dharma to liberate me from causation: where's the inconsistency? You have flown and seen other people fly, you have been healed by doctors and seen others healed, have you seen an...

Re: A small practice but a good one

There is a certain weirdness in Westerners greeting other Westerners in such ways, but then people bow in Japanese martial arts, make Christian gestures etc. and our cultures are now full of diversity. It might be unusual but then.... "goodbye" is a contraction of the phrase "God be ...

Anyways, is it OK if I say namaste just quietly in my mind, especially after social encounters with strangers or those of other faiths?

Your practice is your practice, you must therefore do what you think best. There is no right or wrong way, if you travel the path with good will.

I really enjoy The Simile of the Cup by Ajahn Brahm https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nd0haCapIpE&list=PL9Hy-j453agmziMv8NYfim6NAzEa2h0mI&index=3&t= my anecdotal understanding is we do chose letting of the mind's grassing though the mind's desire to grasp so pervasive it requires constant...

I think the whole point of the onion analogy is that if you keep peeling the onion, layer after layer, suddenly you find you have nothing in your hand. The onion has no core.

I have enough problems seeing the Buddha within me, let alone inside others! Do you aspire to enlightenment? Look at the part of you that does. Have you ever felt compassion for the suffering of another? There sits the Buddha. Same pretty much applies to anyone who has ever tried to be a b...

Well isn't this odd. I've devoted way more of my time here to humour than I should, but I didn't make the list. Maybe because a lot of it was Lolcat memes. Just ask Greg, he will testify that most of my many posts here are funny, if not outright laughable... BTW I think you missed an important sourc...

A small practice but a good one

I have for some years been in the habit of ending each social encounter by saying "Namaste". I was told that it essentially is an acknowledgement of the Buddha within the person you have been talking to. That may or may not be accurate, but hey if you want accuracy you can always ask Malco...

I have always followed the practice of placing the tip of the tongue at the place where the gums and front teeth meet. I was originally told that this helps to get the winds flowing the right way, but I really don't know about that. What i have noticed it that it cuts down on mouth breathing, helps ...

I have this silly idea, but I'm not QUITE sure it's silly.

If you are serious about calling the guru from afar, wouldn't it be correct to start with directory assistance?
