Re: Eating Meat vs. Drinking Alcohol--Which is worse?

And here is one set of statistics demonstrating that a measurable rise in vegetarianism, at least in 10% of 25-34 US year olds (in 2003), has had no verifiable effect in reducing meat production Kirt 'Lo Kirtu :) That is a very interesting statistic. If I read it correctly it means that an increasi...

Re: WOMEN ONLY PLEASE!

I see gender as a very temporary condition. This life is a flash in the pan, incredibly short. So any issues that arise surrounding gender in Buddhism make their way past me very quickly (in a spiritual sense). I consider them to be social issues ... Genuine wisdom there, imho! .. since the o...

What an uncharitable and capitalist way of looking at things. It's like karma, effects may look sometime uncharitable ... Yes, exactly! Please don't think I was advocating the 'uncharitable and capitalist' motives behind the loan as being good things Huseng. I was simply pointing out that it is so ...

'Lo Huseng :) You are not going to like me for saying this, BUT! The 'purpose' of student loans is to deter people from taking an expensive education unless they intend to use it to pay society back by using that education to earn big bucks. Big bucks meaning big taxes, obviously .. I come from the ...

Re: A society that supports the Buddhist path

How do you imagine a society would look if it were to be conducive to awakening? :namaste: Anarchist. Not the 'hippy' type of anarchism whereby everyone who wants to be a bum can be a bum and still get food and dope at the expense of others, mind. Thinking of the type of anarchy that could only exi...

Re: The Psychology of trolls by Holmes.

I get accused of 'trolling' quite a bit muni. Worries me a bit on a couple of counts; One being that I do fit the troll profile in as much as I am argumentative and I long since recognised that I do thrive on attention. T'other count being that 'troll hunts' and 'spot the troll' competitions are a p...
