A bodhisattva is motivated by compassion for suffering of sentient beings.

Hello, I wanted to ask you whether there are any teachings of the Buddha that are applicable Some here regarding sickness. 7. "Here, student, some woman or man is one who harms beings with his hands or with clods or with sticks or with knives. Due to having performed and completed such kammas, on t...

6. Thou shalt not Kill.
7. Thou shalt not commit adultery.
8. Thou shalt not steal.
9. Thou shalt not give false testimony against your neighbor.
10.Thou shalt not covet your neighbor's house, wife, or property.

Certainly complimentary to Buddhadharma because they are buddhadharma.

Re: Monastic Tibetan Buddhists Fear Death More

Saw another article on this study. https://digest.bps.org.uk/2018/02/02/is-death-still-frightening-if-you-believe-the-self-is-an-illusion-an-astonishing-study-of-tibetan-buddhists/ One caveat to the findings highlighted by the researchers is that, although their monastic Buddhist participants medita...

BBQ Tempeh sandwich from the local vegan cafe "Green Bar and Kitchen". Highly recommended if you are ever in South Florida. Note, the "bar" is a juice bar not an alcohol bar. :)

A hindrance to what? If there's nothing to gain, then there's nothing to hinder. There can be when "what there is to gain" is actually losing something, namely ignorance. Losing something doesn't mean you gain anything, but there can be a hindrance to losing it. To lose ignorance is to gain...

"I want to go deeper..." is a big hindrance. To steal a friend's words: practice ane see what happens. My 2 cents, spend or discard, as you please. _/|\_ Keith A hindrance to what? Re: Question about removing christian/etc. baptism

I mean to remove this "empowerment", if you forgive me the expression. Stop believing in the power of baptism and it will have no power of you. Not that simple I find it to be just that simple. I was baptized and it has no power over me and I didn't need to do anything in particular to "remove it"....

Re: How do I go deeper into Zen practice?

Retreats take you deeper into the practice. Sometimes way deeper than any book or philosophy ever could. That's their whole purpose! Plenty of zen centers hold retreats.

and suggested that the chanting might be a form of meditation. Chanting has always been a form of meditation! Korean style zen has entire retreats comprised primarily of chanting. Kusan Sunim, a popular teacher, started his "career" in Buddhism with a 100 day chanting retreat. The purpose is the sa...

Re: "Forgiveness Is Not Buddhist" Article by McLeod in Tricycle

I haven't got time to do more than skim the article, though I'd agree that Ken is generally a decent enough bloke. I was, however, quite disconcerted by the headline: Buddhist teachings do not advise asking others to absolve us from our misdeeds. Instead, they outline a path to purification that wi...

I had a yoga teacher in college who cured himself of severe scoliosis just by doing yoga. And I almost destroyed my knees doing yoga. That's the problem with anecdotal evidence: it's anecdotal. You can destroy your knees doing meditation too. But it's not entirely anecdotal....

Buddhism is not about attaining some state of mind. Buddhism is about being clear about the mind that you have.

Yet, you could also say it is about attaining some state of mind, and that state is a clear state.
