Re: Anti-Tibetan Buddhism Signs

From a traditional Chinese Buddhist POV I can understand their concerns and have some sympathy for them. We all know there have been numerous sex scandals involving lamas and these aren't confined to the West so to some extent the criticisms are justified but it's a shame the profound methods of Hi...

If self-made - I've heard the make-up is similar to that of the 'psychopath' brain... I can't comment on inherited wealth, which from what I was looking at recently, composes the majority of billionaires.

Re: Great Depression History and its shadow

Key differences from the 1930s - the top bracket of the country's wealth was taxed nearly 94% at the height of this era's depression. Every decade since, the taxation rate on the top bracket has steadily declined to a current effective 17%... No one is looking to change this. Can't squeeze blood fro...

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

Wow... I was watching the POV on PBS that recorded - finally got around to it. I thought it was just a neat coincidence that I came across this teacher, his style, etc. The connections I have are quite profound to this teacher. I didn't realize Rinpoche was first based in Naples, where I was born an...

Re: Buddh-ism without the -ism?

If people are really free from attachment inside out, then whatever they do in every moment is practicing Dharma, Buddha's teachings. Buddha does not worry about those people. Buddha worries about those abandoning the ism as in abandoning the precepts, conducts, teachings, rafts, tools, etc before ...

Re: Buddh-ism without the -ism?

I liken meditation sessions to martial arts classes (being a martial arts teacher): the stuff you "learn" or do during the sessions and classes is not for the benefit of the practice (ie my practice is going well) itself, but for application afterwards in the "real world" when you really need it. O...

Re: Buddh-ism without the -ism?

After attending the ChNNR retreat this weekend, I finally became CRYSTAL clear on why I was questioning the -ism in Buddhism and even hesitated to call myself a Buddh-ist. It seemed like somehow, past the basic superficial level of 'practicing dharma' (therefore being a practicing Buddhist) there is...
