Re: A Joint Statement on the Shamar Incarnation

The quality in karma kagyu is greatly diminished by this joint procedure. It effectively dismisses the fact that one person of mind cannot become two, the emanation thing which tibetan buddhist teacher throw out so easily is as believable as "Padmasambhava was born out of a lotus flower in the...

Re: Ole Nydahl suffering from advanced Alzheimer's?

Hes gone already. Hes in the stages of dementia where he has a big problem in knowing the situational where-who-what -is happening. Do you have any source, or anything to back it up? Did you not read Kelwin's post earlier in this thread? I think he was/is involved with DIamondway for a long time. I...

Re: Appropriate shrine decorations in December

This is likely a noob question, but is it disrespectful to decorate your shrine for the December holiday season (i.e. Buddha statue with Santa hat, Christmas tree on the shrine, etc)? I personally feel Buddha would not kind the hat and decorations but I’m just beginning and in no way an authority. ...

Indeed. A friend's nephew had been studying at that University in Prague and returned home to Ireland the very morning of the attack. My friend's brother's family I don't think could have been more relieved.

Re: Research call - looking for images of UK Zennies' practice spaces

I have known the founder of your temple since the 1970's, you are pretty fortunate. Indeed we are. Ryushin Paul Haller is a wonderful teacher - and a Belfast native of course. Our resident teacher Myogan Djinn Gallagher received Dharma transmission from Paul recently. The first Irish-to-Irish trans...

Re: Research call - looking for images of UK Zennies' practice spaces

Hmmm fascinating... I'm hoping for a follow-up project to get some funding to visit communal spaces (zen centres etc) around the UK to talk about the same thing in a broader sense... having had to start from scratch after the fire, think your group would be a great place to visit & chat about t...

Interesting research.

Re: Is Dharma Bhodi / aka Kol Martens a credible teacher?

OP, what you should be looking for in a Dharma teacher (as a starting point, this alone isn't enough) should be the following: 1. Studied for a significant period with known and respected teachers 2. Was asked to teach by those teachers, and that relationship/request is verifiable 3. Teaches what h...

i have heard rumours that Thugseyla the son of Karmapa Thaye Dorje is the new Sharmapa Tulku. does anyone have more information on this? https://www.karmapa.org/2023-5th-birthday-photos-of-thugseyla-from-karmapa/ That has been the general assumption since he was born but since no-one had explicitly...

His bio had more red flags than a North Korean liberation day parade. Basically it's bullsh!t.

You'll be wasting your time with this guy.

Re: Shane MacGowan... There's nothin left to say

I saw the Pogues at the height of their fame in the 80s. They were supposed to play a college gig in Dublin but it got cancelled because the college feared an unruly crowd. It was rescheduled at the last minute but only about 40 people turned up. They were exactly as you'd imagine, all drunk but mag...

Re: How did you arrive at your formal practice routine?

I mostly sit zazen. An hour in the morning and an hour at night. It's what I found I could realistically keep up. I did other practices in the past and occasionally still do - like tonglen or long life practices for someone who is ill. I think the key is to establish a practice that you like doing a...

What may also explain this are the homophobic and transphobic views he is promoting in his temple which are clearly not aligned with the current inclusive views of the Honganji-ha in Japan and the West : http://amida-ji-retreat-temple-romania.blogspot.com/2020/10/conditions-for-marriage-ceremonies-...

Re: Dealing with hyper-awareness of NOISE.

Actually lama yeshe from samye ling did to 5 years retreat right next to a construction site. If you use earplugs for blocking noise you will end up meditating in a closet to avoid all other sensory input. Thats not the point. Like others said the point of meditation is to not reject appearences, n...

Re: Dealing with hyper-awareness of NOISE.

Practice is about opening to whatever is arising here and now be it birdsong or dogs barking or heavy metal music. If it's all too much, ear plugs are an option but ideally it would be better to develop an attitude of open interest in what is arising (including awareness of any desire to reject it)...

Re: How are you preparing for death?

Ones internal choices aside I have often wished people would be more compassionate to those they leave behind. 1. Get rid of all your hoarder junk. No one else thinks it still valuable. Not for 25 years. The only people who agree with you will also be dead soon. Get rid of it. 2. Write or update you...

The fact that he calls himself "Zen Master" is all the red flag I think anyone needs.
