Re: Joint Statement of the Two Karmapas

:good: Thank you Karma Trinley. Your comments are helpful to me. After my initial happiness at the wonderful news, I started thinking about dark memories of our past dramas and feeling blue. It will take time to heal old wounds. I think it would be helpful if more elders meet with elder members of ...

Re: Joint Statement of the Two Karmapas

An interesting if not very deep analysis on the Karmapas' meeting: http://www.asianage.com/opinion/oped/181018/ignoring-top-tibetan-lamas-puts-india-on-wrong-side-of-history.html Not sure where the writer gets his info from but claims the meeting was at the behest of Thaye Dorje. The article portray...

Re: Joint Statement of the Two Karmapas

Generally the Karmapa has not been involved in temporal politics in Tibet, other than in regard to the spiritual hierarchy of the lineage if you want to call that politics. The Dalai Lama holds the position of the temporal head of Tibet, and is also a high tulku within the Gelug lineage. In general...

Re: Joint Statement of the Two Karmapas

IMO, that is a very sad perspective. That’s not to say that there aren’t problems with the tulku culture, or that all tulkus are legitimate, or even that it shouldn’t peter out, but to categorically call it simply politics and organization is disheartening to a degree and a sign of degeneration, it...

Re: Joint Statement of the Two Karmapas

Have abandoned the idea that tulkus are actually tulkus? Or is it just political? Personally, I view it very cynically as all political. An useful tool for social organization perhaps in medieval times but useless now. There is nothing in the Buddha's teachings about tulkus. A Tibetan invention. Ka...

Re: Joint Statement of the Two Karmapas

If the 2 Karmapas can agree on the next Shamarpa, that will be a real cause for rejoicing. I think this Kagyu generation’s lamas can easily do a better job than the last generation did. I think if nothing else comes out of this, OTD will recognize TTD's son as Shamarpa (if of course TTD wishes that...

Re: Joint Statement of the Two Karmapas

Come on let's turn this into another who's the real Karmapa thread. Especially when we are going on the word of children - it proves nothing. As a 3 year old I was convinced I was spider man. The real Karmapa is the one who acts like one not just who says he is. Dawa Sangpo would be in the running i...

Re: What a buddhist tradition did you choose and why?

Hello, I'm looking for the right buddhist tradition for me and I can't decide, so pleas help me by answering to my question. Thank you for everything! I think the important thing is join a legittimate tradition. Most important though is finding a good Sangha, a supportive group of good people who c...

Re: Joint Statement of the Two Karmapas

Also to consider is that having been recognised by their respective teachers - is it even possible for either to say now that they are not the Karmapa without breaking their commitments to their teachers?????? I don't think that will be an issue. Either they will fudge it and one could have a Karma...

Re: Revoking/undoing temporary refuge.

What is temporary refuge? I was confused by that term too. In some ways refuge ceremonies are superfluous. If you just say the refuge and mean it, you are taking refuge in the Three Jewels. I think refuge ceremonies are really to mark entry into a particular Buddhist community. It's a public declar...

Re: Joint Statement of the Two Karmapas

Things can change. Drikung used to be lead by members of one clan but now has two heads. Dalailama is probably choosing his successor now. And Sakya has also changed. If it is wha it takes to hold the lineage together and not break samayas then why not. Indeed, there is change throughout how lineag...

Re: Geshe Degree for Bön Nuns

Tashi delek, Seems to be that Bön is the first Spiritual Tibetan Tradition who made this dream for Nuns a reality. Guess the other Spirtual Tibetan Traditions will follow this example. No discrimination between the spiritual abilities /emancipation  between women and men ! It was due t...

Re: Joint Statement of the Two Karmapas

So anyone capable of translating this? From my rudimentary Tibetan I can see that Ogyen Trinley is referred to as Gyalwa Karmapa and Thaye Dorje is not in the document. The signatures certainly resemble those on the earlier press release but that is easy to fake. Like the earlier press releases head...

Re: Joint Statement of the Two Karmapas

I think for many of us that have faith in the Karma Kamtsang for example, there are many great incarnations of Tai Situ. Most that I have spoken to have little faith in the current one, to be generous. One thing your statement is definitely not, is generous. But it is exactly that quality we'll all...

Re: Joint Statement of the Two Karmapas

Maybe a little premature. We don't know how or even if this will eventually play out. There may be one, two or no Karmapas for all we know. Talking of multiple Karmapas, anyone have any news how Dawa Sangpo is taking the latest developments? Maybe a lot premature. No one has said anythin...

Re: Joint Statement of the Two Karmapas

Maybe a lot premature. No one has said anything about there being more than one Karmapa, though many of those rejoicing, and those wringing their hands, have assumed this meeting allows for two (or more) Karmapas. I think that's an incorrect inference. I also saw something on FB about Thaye Dorje r...
