Re: Buddhist Billionaire plans to change China

Good to see more powerful Chinese work for more liberation of China. By "powerful", I mean a billionaire can reach a lot of people. With a liberated China, we may also hopefully one day see a free Tibet.

Be kind. There is always the possibility to be kind.

This was something like the Dalai Lama said.

So what do you practice?
My Buddhist center is Kagyu, but I follow the most of Buddhist teachings wherever they come from. I am hetero.

Re: Tibetan Buddhism and the Third Precept

I would not trust Lion' s Roar too much. Even if they quote the Dalai Lama and Tsongkhapa. As long as it is voluntary, then masturbation, oral, anal is allowed. Even during daylight. Try to talk about this subject with a straight face. Sex is a strange act, but it is alright. What I "heard" is that ...

Re: Yes, you need a teacher.

I will tell a little personal story about why I don't think a teacher is always necessary. My Dad is from Nepal and his little village is mostly Buddhist. They have some local Lamas that perform rituals at births, weddings and funerals. But Dad is a Buddhist and he never had a close "teacher". But h...

I remember criticizing you a while back, for masturbation. I am sorry.
What??

I remember there was a "masturbation thread" about two years ago, but that one got perverted and turned everybody off. lol :toilet:

Re: Tibetan Buddhism and the Third Precept

You don't need to refer to Gelug specifically. The precept of "no sexual misconduct" is the same in Hinayana, Mahayana, Vajrayana.

Masturbation is allowed. The rest of it should be quite obvious, even for a non-Buddhist.

Re: Yes, you need a teacher.

the path. No teacher, no path. Buddha is the teacher. Fine, let us view our Vajrayana monk as Buddha. No problem. This is not what I talked about, when I said you don't absolutely need a teacher. But instead of debating with me, I get comments like ridiculous and silly and a Buddhist without a teac...

Re: Yes, you need a teacher.

I would like to turn the thread title upside down: No, you don`t need a teacher. What you need is the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path. That does not need any teacher. We only need the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas to guide us. Of course, Vajrayana is the path that stresses the need for a teacher...

How can we improve? How can we be more inviting? Kirt What do I know? Maybe patience and compassion (as we are all stressed to do) is the key? Well, just be friendly and kind. Metta and understanding. Don't think we know everything, admit some ignorance. I really don't know what to say. I like the ...

Re: Unkindness at dharmawheel

Dharmawheel is just gossip. It's McBuddhism fast food.

In order to make it more serious, people have to stop taking things too personally. Some of us are alone and have no Sangha and need this forum. If I was a new-comer to Buddhism, I would be scared of the members here.

I saw a wall poster for his Diamond Way Buddhism some years ago. I checked out this Ole Nydahl, and for me, it seems like he is fast food McBuddhism. He has some knowledge, but he cannot transmit any wisdom. I don't know which lamas he has been with, but to me he seems like a fraud or some feel-good...

Re: Would advanced AI possess Buddha-nature?

Was the human mind intelligently designed? This is a question that has something to do with "intelligent design" theory. This is a New Age form of Creation to renew and modernise the old belief that it comes from God. Sorry, there is no intelligent design that implies a designer in Buddhism. http:/...
