We’re talking about the movie Barbie, it’s a comedy. Not Sophie’s Choice.

Re: Barbie

In medicine, "assigned at birth" refers to the designation made by the physician delivering the infant. I have only ever heard the term used in that context, no reference to any creator. YMMV. I think Peter is using a bit of humor, something sorely absent in most of these types of discuss...

Re: Barbie

How exactly does having a final scene where a woman visits a gynecologist add fuel to TERF talking points exactly? Are you saying there is some better, more inclusive way to show a visit to the gynecologist? What would that be? Do feminist artistic statements always need to include a trans specific...

Re: Barbie

I just have to add that yesterday was pretty bizarre. After seeing Barbie, my neighbor’s mother died and I literally came up to her dead body lying on the sidewalk with a blanket over it and asked who it was…my neighbor said it was her mother. And the EMT just left her dead body there on the sidewal...

Re: Barbie

I was planning on watching it. I expected it to not just be all fun and poppy, as I can’t see Greta Gerwig doing a fluffy, traditional Barbie thing. I’ll comment once I’ve seen it. Please do. I like films that use the medium as allegory, whereas at points this was like listening to a speech and mon...

Not me, and won't unless someone pays me about $1000 per minute.
And even at that rate I might reserve the right to walk out part way through.

You might like it because it is very grim. A good introduction to Samsara for the kids. :|

Barbie

Just saw it tonight and let me say, I’ve never cried before so hard about Patriarchy. For real, though. On the other hand, I have some thoughts about the movie… I thought it would be a lighthearted, funny film (as it presents itself) that is meant to cheer up our dark world or at least be a fun time...

Unbelievable match.
Yes, it was. And Djokavic and Alcatraz were quite funny and gracious afterwards.

Re: Wimbledon

Enjoyed watching Pegula. Eubanks against Tsitsipas (who handled Murray) should be good. Interested to see how that match goes. And the number 1 seed is a mystery to me. Anyone to beat Novac… The Djoker gets Rublev, who beat him on clay *in Serbia* last year. Maybe Rublev can wear him down. Despite ...

Re: The Southwest is dooomed

I've been to Lake Powell a few times, it's a very beautiful and surreal place. There's Rainbow Bridge and Antelope Canyon there. Last time we were there our ski boat hit a rock and sank. And then the houseboat was retired due to old age. Seemed a fitting end to an era for family vacations. It's a ha...

Re: World Cup 2022

I'm kinda bummed about Morocco going out, but France-Argentina ought to be a very good match. Griezmann has looked like the best player in the WC, and Messi is Messi. Should be fun. To me, it is a shame Morroco didn’t win. But, at least we have a really good final game ahead. A genuinely world-wide...

I have a call and response with my kids on game day: WHO'S OUR QUARTERBACK?! JOSH ALLEN!! He's an American legend in the making. Paul Bunyan, Johnny Appleseed, John Henry, Neal Cassady ( ), Josh Allen. Perfect underdog for Buffalo. He's been doubted and written off throughout his football ...

Its an interesting lens to examine how grasping at pleasure and distraction play out. Overall, my interest in sports has been fading over t...

Re: World Cup 2022

Why would that make a difference? Virgo It doesn’t make any difference, however typically one sees a lot of support for Mexico’s team and not for the USA in my area of the US when it comes to soccer. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. It’s all part of the multicultural environment we ...
