Re: Immutable Nature of the Primordial State

Actually, the assertion that there is no basis is precisely the meaning of Dzogchen, Mahāmudra, and Prajñāpāramitā. With Prajnaparamita yes. With Mahamudra and Dzogchen it depends on who you talk to. Every Dzogchen master I've ever met or read has said that the views of Dzogchen, Mahamudra, and Pra...

Re: Immutable Nature of the Primordial State

Malcolm,

Usually we speak of the Sutrayana paths as as the causal vehicles, and the mantrayana paths as the resultant vehicles; but does Dzogchen consider Anuyoga and Mahayoga "resultant"?

Re: Immutable Nature of the Primordial State

There is no primordial state. You might want to make a somewhat more nuanced post than that. Perhaps try, "A classical Indian philosopher, such as Nagarjuna, would say such an idea is a Hindu heresy." Or perhaps, "That kind of idea crept into certain types of Dharma only late in the game due to a m...

Re: Immutable Nature of the Primordial State

Chapter 9 of the Kunjed Gyalpo as per The Supreme Source goes so far as to say that "the vehicles based on the principle of cuase and effect" are tied more "to the external" and that "they are erroneous paths" in the sense that they display "an imperfect understanding of the condition of the indivi...

Re: Immutable Nature of the Primordial State

Love, It's very important to remember that Dzogchen is entirely in line with Prajna Paramita. There are neither one nor many phenomena. Phenomena have never arisen, yet they clearly appear. The container--the world--and the contained--sentient beings--are emptiness. To think in terms of something be...

I seem to remember someone mentioning a stream for the WWT on Facebook that was more reliable than the main webcast site? Or maybe that was for some other event. Is there such a thing?

Re: Is Monastic Ordination the Better Option for Single Dzogchen Practitioners?

That's right. I was quite surprised when a Yungdrung Bon teacher placed Ngondro first. Not sure why but I had thought, like ChNN, they may be 'DI first' in approach. For several reasons I didn't pursue it after speaking with him. The Nyingma approach, at least with my root lamas (not counting ChNN,...

Re: Dzogchen materials not requiring DI?

:good: This helps! Thanks for the time you've taken to explain it. You’re welcome! Glad it helped. I just wanna make a clarification to something I said. When I said the main practice “doesn’t involve visualization,” I was referring to resting in the natural state, which is the ultimate point. But ...

Re: Is Monastic Ordination the Better Option for Single Dzogchen Practitioners?

Does anyone know whether in monastic life it would be easy to focus on Guruyoga and Dzogchen and treat all the Tantric practice as 'secondary'? This is exactly the way Dzogchen is presented in all the very ubiquitous Dzogchen practice manuals I’ve ever encountered. Dzogchen is Dzogchen. Norbu Rinpo...

Re: Dzogchen materials not requiring DI?

Kausalya, Also, you should know that the Dzogchen state—your own Buddha nature, your own essential knowledge—is completely unfabricated and nonconceptual. It is utterly free of fixation, tension, and unharmed by discursive thoughts. So during the transmission, know that although you’ll fabricate a v...

Re: Yidam and Dzogchen

Kevin, there are of course two main Dharmas: The Dharma of Scripture and the Dharma of Realization. Longchenpa is universally regarded as being an incredibly realized Dzogchen master. It's not unlikely that he referenced passages in specific tantras to support his assertion, as he often does that, b...

Re: Does poti wang accomplish the same as lung?

To be more specific, some time ago I received some Düdjom Tersar empowerments, but either I didn’t know enough back then to recognize the lung being given as well, or maybe it wasn’t? Years later I received the Düdjom Tersar poti wang, so I’m wondering if this is equivalent functionally to receivin...

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

I mean that what you need in order to practice anything by ChNNR is first direct introduction, given three times a year on specific dates and also during retreats, and then you also need the lung for the practice that you want. So for Mandarava you need direct introduction and the Mandarava lung. I...

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

I understand that the Guhyagarbha Tantra is held in especially high regard, and was important in the development of Nyingma practice, but can we get the same benefit from practicing Mahayoga according to a different text, e.g. from the Chokling Tersar? This just means that the Guhyagarbha tantra is...

How to empower incense/food with SoV

I’ve heard ChNN Rinpoche say we can empower/bless incense, food, & the like with SoV to make them “liberation upon smelling/tasting,” but I’m not entirely clear on how to do this. Do I simply give rise to this intention and sing SoV in contemplation in the presence of these substances, or is there m...

Re: Liberation through Taste Medicine???

To empower incense, food, etc with the SoV and 6 syllables for “liberation bomb” purposes, is there anything more to it than simply being in the state of guruyoga and singing them in the presence of said substances? Should we blow on them afterward? Also, as the 25 spaces are related to the SoV and ...

There is one Samantabhadra called Samantabhadra of the basis: but you have to understand there are five Samantabhadras talked about in Dzogchen tantras.
Could you say more about these five Samantabhadras? This is the first time I’ve ever heard this and I’m curious.
