Re: Chogyal Namkhai Norbu Has Attained Parinirvana

Does anyone know if they'll take the camera inside so we can see Rinpoche's kudung? Or does anyone know what else is going to happen? It's super late here and I'm struggling to stay awake, but I will if something more than watching people slowly move into & out of the stupa.

Were you guys able to connect well to the 20:00 session today? It was in and out for me, and then just cut out altogether.

Re: Kunjed Gyalpo:The Supreme Source

Been reading this book lately. Just have to say...what an incredibly cool and entertaining way to present the Dzogchen Teachings!!! It's as though one were having a conversation with the Enlightened Nature...very cool...makes me laugh with joy i was told that kunjed gyalpo is root text to samdhi an...

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

Can anyone point me toward where I can find the melody for the long guru yoga of Garab Dorje? That is the one the community is currently doing, yes? I haven't been able to attend the webcasts thus far, have to practice solo.

Re: What's the difference between Guru Yoga and Yidam practice, and how do they relate to the Four Noble Truths?

The ultimate purpose of guru yoga is to merge our mind with the wisdom mind of the lama and all the objects of refuge in order to discover the very same wisdom mind--inseparable emptiness and knowing--in ourselves. To me, the ngondro is, like someone else said, one long guru yoga, culminating with t...

Re: How to become enlightened via Tibetan Buddhism?

Starting with ngondro is not necessarily the best for someone who has lots of experience in Theravada. Problem however is that most Tibetan teachers will tell you to first do it and you end up months or years while you are already trained to a certain extent in mindfulness, concentration, compassio...

Re: Confused about nature of mind introduction

One cannot practice any kind of real Dzogchen practice without empowerment. Alan Wallace knows this, which is why he gives empowerments to the more advanced people in his program. This is the first I've heard about B Alan Wallace being authorized to give Dzogchen transmission. Is it your understand...

Re: Confused about nature of mind introduction

What is the course of action I should take here, if any? If any one has any thoughts on this I'm all ears. Hi there seeker! My advice would be to keep practising. Get some decent amount of meditation hours (do it daily!) under your belt before spending any more money on these events. Later you can ...

Re: Doing Vajrayana practices for the dead of other religions

Because there is absolutely no guilt, shame, or judgement in bodhicitta. Bodhicitta is wisdom or the true nature of reality manifesting in thought, word, and deed. It is limitless and completely beyond the boundaries of religious dogma and social constructs. “Ugh, don’t you pray to your heathen god...

Re: Doing Vajrayana practices for the dead of other religions

Not if what you're doing is fully inspired by bodhicitta. That is of course the whole point, but what makes you so sure that would be enough to prevent them from becoming freaked out, angry, and/or fearful that they're sinning? Because there is absolutely no guilt, shame, or judgement in bodhicitta...

Re: Doing Vajrayana practices for the dead of other religions

It’s said that when wandering through the bardo, people are somewhat clairvoyant with respect to those they knew in the life they just passed away from. That being the case, then I’m wondering if doing Vajrayana practices on their behalf could unintentionally hurtle them into an unfortunate rebirth...

Re: Importance of Secrecy in Secret Mantra

Along these lines, there is also the notion of "self secrecy", the fact that teachings remain opaque to those not ready for them. I have heard teachers bring this up, that some of the stuff out there is basically nonsense, and meaningless to people without the Karma to receive transmission or pract...

Re: Turning daily life into retreat

It's been challenging for me to diligently practice daily. I usually get off work earlier than my wife, so I have at least a couple of hours to myself - time which I should use better. Motivation is a big problem for me. That and the fact that I can be horribly lazy. :? In my experience just establ...

Re: Egg-shaped vase-like thing next to Garab Dorje in images

It is a basket. Does it symbolize holding the whole Dzogchen teachings, ie "Dzogchen pitaka"? If not, what does it symbolize? I only remember seeing it next to Dzogchen masters. It's where you store your stuff. lol ok, but what's the significance of depicting it in a lineage master's thangka? And s...
