Dudjom Tröma Nagmo ngondro

So from what I can tell, the well known concise Tersar ngondro is in the same cycle (Dagnang Yeshe Drelwa) as the Tröma practices and teachings, but I’ve also heard of a so-called Tröma ngondro. Are these distinct ngondro’s? If so, does one typically start with the Tröma one from the start of one pl...

...therefore it is accurate to say that there is nothing, truly nothing. Disagree? That’s the problem with Madhyamaka. Yet appearances do appear. Hence the need for Yogacara. I don't think Madhyamaka denies appearances. If I'm not mistaken, it just prefers not to make much in the way of positive as...

They are sambhogakāya fields, in fact.
Haha now I'm even more in the dark. If they're actually sambhogakaya fields, why are they termed natural nirmanakaya fields? Can you say a little more about them, such as their features and the advantages of rebirth there that are particular to them?

Re: Question

...or a natural nirmanakāya buddhafield. I've heard this term in teachings, and in books, but I've never sought an explanation of precisely what this means. It specifically says "natural" nirmanakaya buddhafield, which would seem to distinguish them from some other kind of nirmanakaya buddhafield. ...

Re: Silent practice in Dzogchen Community - what are the options?

Khemmis, First off, have you informed your cardiologist that the dysrhythmias persist? If they ablated the ectopic areas in your right atrium, and it was successful, I’d think it would be much less of a problem now. Secondly, are you so certain it’s not just that while meditating, reciting mantras a...

Re: Yidam w Togal as dzogrim

In Tröma, Guru is the yidam and the bindu. In other sadhanas, there’s a separate guru yoga. Thanks. Are these other sadhanas typically similar to the ngondro format of guru yoga, or do they tend to be more like ladrup practices where one visualizes oneself as the lama, ie Longchen Nyingtig’s Tigle ...

Re: Yidam w Togal as dzogrim

In Dudjom Tersar, is there a specific guru yoga outside of the ngondro versions that Dzogchen is practiced in, or is Dzogchen typically practiced in the context of the completion stage of yidam practice? Or some other option? In troma, yes. In other dudjom tersar systems, no. Sorry, I'm not clear o...

Re: If the bad times are coming, what to do?

Nyig-mai du , degenerate times, are the result of the decrease in merit of the beings that live in those times and at that place. So the Buddhist answer to the OP's question is to generate as much merit as possible and to decrease and purify as much demerit as possible by whatever means possible de...

Re: Vajrakilaya Practice

Who are the wrong people? If it all don't work without empowerment, etc. where is the danger? What about "self-secret"? I thought it was obvious that I was saying "the wrong people" are simply those without empowerment for the practice. And I wasn't talking in terms of "danger," but rather stating ...

And there is no need to deny them of that happiness! Refuge, if taken seriously, is a serious entry into Dharma. Greg, I personally found the formal refuge ceremony immensely meaningful; ditto for the bodhisattva vow ceremony. It was early on, many years ago, and I didn't fully realize at the time ...

Re: Learning Dzogchen online

How strange. One doesn't even have to have taken refuge to take an empowerment, since refuge is given in the course of the empowerment. Were those registrations for Nyingma empowerments? Ummmmm... Every at single empowerment I have been to (Nyingma and Kagyu) there has been an "official" Refuge cer...

All good Mano! I just wanted to make it clear that "technically" speaking one can read without. Just so our original poster has an alternate answer for his query. But I wholeheartly agree that it is absolutely BEST to receive all the goods before diving in to such texts. I'm WAY more of a don't bot...

Re: Learning Dzogchen online

On further reflection, I think I can see why some lamas may require refuge to have been taken previously before the empowerment; I’m sure they’re trying to ensure that people receiving empowerment are already serious about taking up the Buddhist path and not just spiritual consumers who are are most...

They were just the preliminaries for the text he is offering a transmission for. I *think* Vajrasattva does not require empowerment and I have studied guru yoga in a generic sense. There were no clarifications on what to practice specifically, just that they are prerequisites. At first I was confus...

Re: Learning Dzogchen online

I'm not totally sure everyone agrees with that. I personally do, but at the first teaching I ever attended I had a talk with one of the students of the center where the teaching was and she was adamant you need to go through the formal ritual to have taken refuge. She was a Gelug student. I...

Re: Learning Dzogchen online

So I think this is still on topic... I have never taken refuge to a teacher before, and Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche offered them last night at the end of the teachings. I took them online but obviously wasn't there in person - however, I clipped a little bit of hair myself and touched my own head with a ...
