Re: Phowa with psychological disorder

I don't think that phowa would be especially harmful in any way, but as with any practice, if you are dealing with mental illness and the practice seems to be exacerbating it, you need to be wise about whether to continue, ease up, or just try a different practice instead. It's also important to rem...

Re: Can we use Bodhichitta Bodhi seed wrist mala for mantras?

Hi Ngedrag Yeshe, That is correct. However kimjhoon did not specify whether it is for a Higher Yoga Tantra practice or a non tantric practice =) However I think its best to ask their own Gurus Don't you think? In this case it's irrelevant, as Bodhiseed is considered good for all practices of all ty...

Re: Can we use Bodhichitta Bodhi seed wrist mala for mantras?

Hello, I have recently purchased a 14 bead Bodhichitta Bodhiseed wrist mala in Nepal. In Korea 14 bead represents the 14 fearlessness of Kwaneum (Avalokitesvara or Chenrezig). Can I use my 14 bead mala for mantra recitations instead of 108? Thank you. Sure. If you're trying to keep track of specifi...

+1 for Luipa (as well as Brahmarupa Mahakala). Makes sense with the overall thangka you're describing too.

Minobu is definitely not wrong , since the overall consensus is that the laws of physics have played by the same rules since the big bang and won't ever change. The CURRENT overall consensus... That's the beauty of science: (new) contrary facts can overturn (old) theories. Yes, there are some inter...

It is not uncommon, and from everything I've ever heard it's a good sign as to your connection with the teacher.

I see, I was possibly misunderstanding what the debate was in the first place. I think we're somewhat talking past each other, but I get what you're saying. I'm just curious, would you consider the laws of physics absolute? Given that "laws" of physics change (ie new "laws" come...

Re: Kidney Stones

I happened across another treatment for kidney stones, I can't attest to its efficacy. Shock Wave Lithotripsy (SWL) is the most common treatment for kidney stones in the U.S. Shock waves from outside the body are targeted at a kidney stone causing the stone to fragment. The stones are broken into t...

Re: Gods, demons and arithmetic

I'll jump in and say there is, for the most part. I'd say anything between 650-750 in terms of wavelength could be called red, and nothing else. Really? And what if those waves were seen through a tinted or coloured medium? Would they still be red? What if they were observed by somebody with colour...

Re: Gods, demons and arithmetic

Uh huh. And purely as a hypothetical, if someone were to say "everything is a fabrication, illusion, narrative, imagining", etc., that would be intellectual dishonesty. Why? Are you saying that there is actually is an objective autnomously existent "red", for example? I'll jump ...

Re: Kidney Stones

ClearBlueSky, you may be interested in the slackstone 2 device. it creates a water with a capacity to dissolve which is more powerful than normal water (50 % more). Given that water is 0% effective in dissolving calcium oxalate, 50% more effective is still zero. If there's any evidence of it workin...

Re: Kidney Stones

There is not just one type of kidney stone, and they don't all have the same cause. You need to do a urine test to find out the cause of yours, it could be a dietary change, maybe not. I've had 3 (Calcium oxalate) stones. According to my MRI, I've got 8 or so already formed, in my kidneys as we spea...

For instance was it a given that chodpas would travel to fear invoking enviroments? Yes, in fact in the five slogans that Padampa Sangye taught to Machig Labdron: 1) Confess your hidden faults. 2) Approach what you find repulsive. 3) Help those you think you cannot help. 4) Anything you are attache...

Re: Refuge and Empowerment Through Tech?

I don't see any reason why you couldn't take refuge over the phone. As far as empowerment, there is debate (I remember some thread on here about it). I figure if a well-respected lama like Garchen Rinpoche says it's ok, it probably is, just my take. With both refuge and empowerment a lot depends on ...

Re: Crisis of Faith

It says that half of the Cakrasamvara tantra was copied from an earlier Shivite tantra with some Buddhist language added. Furthermore, many Anuttarayoga rituals and concepts first appear in Shivite tantras. So what's the explanation? Doesn't this mean that Anuttarayoga is not from the Buddha and no...

Re: a question on the six exercises of Naropa

One may still prepare by studying before the auspicious time has come. Traditionally, I don't think that's really true (in reference to the six dharmas of Naropa). You'd probably be better off doing "regular", widely available physical yogas to prepare your body, it would probably be more...
