Re: Can we use Bodhichitta Bodhi seed wrist mala for mantras?

Hi,

I don't know if there are rules for that, but from a practical point of view I'd find it very distracting if I had to turn around so often when I'm reaching the Buddha bead, especially when practicing a short Mantra like that of Chenrezig.

Re: How to do something in microsoft word?

That's a nice one Kim, I will try that next time I'm converting a text from the internet into an ebook. Btw I'm sometimes helping people formatting academic texts with Word, and one of my standard edits is to search for ^p^p (double paragraph markers) and replace them with a single paragraph marker ...

Re: How to do something in microsoft word?

You can use the search & replace function to replace one paragraph mark (¶) with two paragraph marks like this: replace.jpg Since I have a German version of Word I'm afraid I can't tell you the English commands/buttons, but I hope the screenshot helps. You'd have to click the replace and skip bu...

Re: Choosing A Buddhist Language

The benefit of learning Sanskrit would be that the language is Indo-European, (thus similar to the languages I'm familiar with,) is highly refined and logical ... I think this is a factor you shouldn't underestimate. I've started learning classical Tibetan years ago and my knowledge is still... med...

Re: A question on malas

Hi, I think it would be too distracting having different counters for different mantras on one mala, because after every round you'd have to sort out which counter to use. An alternative solution would be to have just one mala with one set of counters and to transfer the number of malas onto a list ...

Re: Copying sutras using one's blood

I've found this post about the tradition of writing with blood by Sam van Schaik https://earlytibet.com/2012/05/03/blood-writing/ I've never heard of this practice before. I like copying texts by hand, but doing it with blood is certainly not my cup of tea, I'd very much prefer Diamine Oxblood :shru...

Re: Wrathful Deities

This is obviously not from a Buddhist context, but I think this scene from The Lord of the Rings where Gandalf manifests a wrathful display can serve as an illustration :D https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Yy0pPTrHlk Of course in Buddhism wrathful activity means much more than that, since it's about ...

Re: Anonymity on Buddhist forums

Considering the Buddhist cults that occasionally crop up it is nice to make them have to work when it comes to finding you. Considering the illegal activity I have witnessed in Buddhism anonymous posting should be encouraged. Whistle blowers must be protected. +1 Excellent point. One should never f...
