Re: The Aro Authenticity Debate.

...Given the lack of evidence, I see no reason why any rational person would conclude that they are authentic.... I don’t think anyone here is claiming that they *are* authentic, which is the odd thing about this discussion. There are a few positions being put forward: 1. They are not authentic bec...

Rather, we must not outsource the responsibility for our philosophical decisions to a third party and then cloak ourselves in intolerance for those that make different decisions.

Re: The Aro Authenticity Debate.

There is no yardstick for 'authenticity' at all, for any group, none. Authenticity in this context is a willothewisp, a mirage, a fond illusion. The only yardstick is the fruits of practice, and the Aro show that in spades unlike a number of groups one could point to who have an undisputed pedigree....

Re: Feminism, the "myth" of the gender pay gap and other left wing ideologies

Jordan Peterson made such an ass of himself during the debate on Bill C-16 that I wouldn't believe anything he said. If he said the sky was blue, I'd want to go outside and check. He is a right-winger, and I'll be honest, that is a strike against him, as far as I am concerned. But I will listen to ...

Re: The Aro Authenticity Debate.

This thread is all too busy for me to get involved with. But one thing is clear, Malcolm, the general tone of your comments has changed. Perhaps that's a good thing - people who can't change their mind are, I say, people who can't think. I do have a copy of what you wrote on e-sangha about 12 years...

There is one thing positive that has come out of this discussion: Mantrik and Simon E have finally found something they agree on!
I think you might misunderstand our relationship.. We are Brit codgers of a certain age with a lot in common.... which means we sometimes fall out.

Re: The Aro Authenticity Debate.

... The same thing goes with Aro -- let us suppose it is just a copy of Nyingma termas -- let us suppose they have the seven line prayer revealed as part of the supposed treasures of an Aro Lingma of questionable historicity. Let us also suppose that these Aroistas chant this Aro seven line prayer,...

What will your KARMA be Simon E for your advice about Aro?
I think someone needs a teacher to tell them what 'KARMA' means.
Also check out 'VIPAKA'.

I put them in capitals for you in case you miss the key words. ;)

Re: The Aro Authenticity Debate.

I think there is an important factor that hasn't come up yet in the discussion... Are there ex-students of the Aro gTer? And if yes, why have they left...? If no, then they must be doing something right... Maybe it's all the nude rituals 😂. Joking aside, I am neither pro nor against them. That's an...

Re: The Aro Authenticity Debate.

I dig. Maybe I'll give that Pema Khandro Rinpoche another chance! Feel free. At least she has taken the pains to acquire a solid academic foundation in Buddhist Studies —— that is always encouraging. Just found out that she studies at the Ka-Nying Shedra in Kathmandu right now from a friend that al...

So don't practice it..
Are you seriously claiming that you know that no one else should?
Nah, I didn't and I don't. No clue how you come to such a conclusion.
You claiming that it cant rightfully be called Dzogchen kind of led me there.

Re: What it means to be a ngakpa

How do you know his termas are fake? What is your basis for such an evaluation? Are they inconsistent with the meaning of the Dharma in general? Is there some teaching within them that contradicts Buddhadharma specifically? If yes, what specifically? If no, then what is the problem? Well, I don't w...

Re: The Aro Authenticity Debate.

I am quite confused. When it came to Sogyal, people claimed how important it is to have qualified guru. And now we are claiming that Aro can be valid just because the students believe it? Well students believe in Sogjal's innocence, people believe that homeopatics are real medicine. But seriously i...

The issue is not whether I think they are authentic. I have no intention of joining them. The question is whether THEY think they are following an authentic path..and they do. And that is their business..not mine. If asked would I recommend them to a seeker? I would say clearly, be very sure what y...
