Re: Mala Etiquette

There is a traditional view that to simply skip across the Guru bead is tantamount to barging across the teacher in a rude way.
That is why some practitioners reverse the mala and go back the other way rather than crossing the Guru bead. (the larger bead with the tassel).

'It are karmic thoughts'...

What are karmic thoughts exactly? How do they differ from simple thoughts?

And what is 'collective karma' ? Do you mean consensual reality?

Re: Dzogchen and Mahamudra main differences

To say I am no scholar ( in things Buddhadharma) is an understatement. One thing I can tell you which may or may not be pertinent is that my first teacher taught Mahamudra to anyone who asked for it, but Dzogchen to only a very few. Now that was then and if he was around bodily today his position mi...

Re: Whaaaaats Going On..?

Isn't that normal there? You guys get some weather. It's December. ;) I live in the Thames Valley near London. We only see snow about one year in three, and even then it's usually only around for a few days. It is also unusual for it to snow in the South of England before January. The world's perce...

Re: Bodhi Day Fish Release 8th Dec

The fish will be released into environments where they will be able to live undisturbed, such as ponds and lakes where fishing is prohibited. The fish will be blessed with mantras and given myong grol (liberation through tasting), precious substances that give them a good cause for higher future re...

Shut down due to lack of interest.
That is not the whole story.
Like all conditioned phenomena it arose due to various causes.
To whit, it served a need. It served that need very well.
The conditions many of which were outwith VC, changed as conditions do.
The need for it was far less.

There is a lot of Buddhism without rebirth.

There is no Buddhadharma without rebirth.

I stand corrected.
My main point was that his life was very different to most Lamas who have come to prominence since the Diaspora.

Re: The Six Lamps

Can I just read this? Generally speaking, how do Bön teachers feel about people reading texts such as this? Are there any 'requirements' as such, or should one just use their judgment? In "Tibetan Yogas of Body, Speech, and Mind", Geshe Tenzin Wangyal RInpoche gives short instructions on the Six La...

Re: When you first started... (lightweight question)

I have no problem with the idea that there will be those who require some kind of intervention before they can engage with Dharma. Endogenous depression and substance abuse are just two examples of conditions that might prove huge obstacles for the would-be Vajrayana student. I would repeat, there a...

Re: Chatral Sangye Dorje

Thank you for the correction. My language was sloppy. I meant he wrote nothing ABOUT teachings or about himself in the biographical and subjective style which has become the expectation of many westerners. His daughter told me that he had been approached by an agent of one of the Buddhist publishing...

Anyone know more about Chatral Sangye Dorje than Wikipedia and rigpa wikia? Books? Writings? Dharma Talks? So on and so on? Peoples view on him? *Seems he's top shelf*? Chatral Rinpoche was the antithesis of most modern Vajra teachers. He wrote nothing. Did not tour. Had no organisation. His influe...

Re: extibetanbuddhist dot com

I have confidence in ChNN. I will work in my secular life and do practice in my free time. But I am not going to look for more teachings from exile lamas. Too sweeping. Of course CnNN is impeccable. But there are other exiled Lamas without the slightest besmirchment. We need proper discernment, not...

Re: When you first started... (lightweight question)

The sutric path is not some kind of entry-level requirement before practicing HYT or Dzogchen.

The sutric path is an entirely different path with a different destination.

Many people have been freed from addictions by having their original minds pointed out to them by someone able to do that.
