Re: Leslie Hays says Akong R kidnapped and tortured SMR

I honestly finda that hard to believe. This is bit too much. But still shows how f-ing messy the whole situation is. Kinda reminded me of a passage where Dianna says Akong R. bullied her and CTR when they still were in Samye-ling. But still really? This is a horrible mess. I knew Akong Rinpoche for...

Re: Big messages to deplorables ???

In psychonational terms ... America's shadow is coming to light under Donnie. This could be a good thing, there is a huge amount of creative energy in the shadow. Destructive too. Getting in touch with one's shadow is never easy, so we shouldn't expect that. And it's dangerous, for obvious reasons....

It could..but that has nothing to do with the quote from Oscar Wilde, which is a play on words.

Re: Moderation

Could someone explain what "everything in moderation, including moderation" is all about? I heard that as a description of the eight-fold path. Does this statement have anything to do with morality? What does it have to do with Buddhism? It has nothing to do with 'Buddhism'. It is a quote from the ...

Re: mental habits

mental habit of discourse lies on mental habit of grasping to mental formation, mental habit of grasping on mental formations lies in mental habit of the division of a self and an other, but mental habit of division of a self and an other is a subtle mental formation not an intrinsic quality. how s...

Re: Football World Cup.

I think in both the International game and in the English football league we see an increased awareness of simulation from both referees and linesmen. The degree to which it was starting to occur, eventually became a minor scandal and certainly the English F.A. (football association) has issued clea...

Re: What's the point of abusive gurus?

You make some good points Yagmort. I think there is much truth in your points 1-6. Particularly your observations that those damaged will be drawn to abusers and will be more likely to stay in relationship with them. I think we need to be very careful that this does not become another reason to blam...

Re: What's the point of abusive gurus?

i think it is a task for a new "yangsi" generations of lamas, some of whom as it seems, Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche or Kalu Rinpoche, for example, have already been through enough to get the idea of what consequences emotional/physical abuse can lead to. I'm not sure neurosis were not that common in T...

Re: What's the point of abusive gurus?

Ok. Lots of posts removed. Some of them may find there way into a split off topic (or not). I don't have the time to sift through them this evening so see if there is anything worth salvaging. For now, carry on with the discussion of what's the point of abusive gurus? Not really worth saving.... Th...

No nicotine supplements. No change in lifestyle.

Just cold turkey. Go through it. Suffer. It passes.

I did it. You can do it.

Re: proclaiming awakening

I am answering only because I suspect no answer..which would actually be wisest..will result in your assuming that your points are unanswerable. 'Kensho' is is a term only used in Zen. Whether it refers to a phenomenon exclusive to Zen I have no idea. Within the Vajrayana* there are ways to test 'sa...

Re: proclaiming awakening

There is no pan-Buddhism. Therefore there is no single Buddhist culture and no single view . . . And that’s wonderful. But I have yet to hear an answer to why Buddhist teachers don’t share with their students what they have experienced and realized within their tradition. The only way that you will...

Re: proclaiming awakening

I’m a bit uncomfortable with the whole idea of ‘attainment’. Actually I borrowed a book from the library once, and although I don’t remember much about it, it had an aphorism in the flyleaf in some strange language, the translation of which was given as ‘the unattainable is attained by non-attainme...
