Re: Psoriasis

I only know what I have read..but I know that there is a theory that it is caused, or at least worsened, by inflammation of the gut. And that dietary measures can help.

To all those offering advice: If you do not know what the source of the problem is, how can you offer practice advice?

Varis needs to speak directly to a teacher and possibly to a medical specialist.

Who is talking about marathon? Not me. Clearly you are making a concerted effort to avoid understanding me. Fine. Om mani padme hum Kathy I am sorry if I offend you, but this distinction is not done in Buddhism, no matter where the quote is from. Like Malcolm said, pain is the suffering of sufferin...

Re: Instant Presence and Physical Pain

Could someone comment on how tremendous physical pain (such as gout or a kidney stone) would be experienced if one were to be able to be in instant presence during that moment? My understanding is that this would be like any other experience except potentially more difficult. You would have the sen...

Re: The world is getting worse and worse

No I googled it. It used to be more commonly spelled with an s in Britain, but they’re finally catching up with the leaders, in spelling emphasise at least. I kid!! Well, if Google says it. I was taught to emphasise, prioritise, legitimise and to chastise. Even now my spell check (since it is in US...

Re: The world is getting worse and worse

Buy any old volume printed in Victorian Britain including Thackeray and Dickens and you will find it spelled 'emphasised'. like wise 'exercise', 'volumise'...I and every other Brit born in the last 100 years at least, has always used the 's' form as any Brit on this forum can attest. As did our pare...

Re: The world is getting worse and worse

Whether 'the world' is getting worse I have no idea..I suppose it depends on what you mean by the 'world' and 'worse'. I think we can be sure however that samsara remains samsara. And that samsaric sentient life is characterised by dukkha, anatta, and anicca. Just as it always has been. The parts o...

There is ample evidence that Osho had a number of physical ailments which were either caused or exacerbated, by a range of addictions including to laughing gas ( ) and barbiturates.

Re: "Forgiveness Is Not Buddhist" Article by McLeod in Tricycle

I believe that as long as we are trapped in relative/conditioned reality, with a concept of self and other, higher and lower, victim and perpetrator, then forgiveness plays a positive role. Mainly because of absolving guilt. Guilt can be a rather unforgiving trap, that does not allow us to progress...

Re: "Forgiveness Is Not Buddhist" Article by McLeod in Tricycle

Ken McLeod has posted an interesting article in Tricycle (adapted from a previous work) with the provocative title Forgiveness Is Not Buddhist . In it he references a lot of Vajrayana and Tibetan traditions and makes points about how those and Buddhism in general do not go well with the transaction...

Re: UK football invest in Tibet water

I hope so too. But we have to be realistic. Most football fans have no idea at all about the business enterprises of their favourite club, enterprises which are conducted by finance guys who see what happens on the pitch is an irrelevance to them.

Re: UK football invest in Tibet water

Liverpool has scored an own goal -- signing a sponsorship deal with Chinese company Tibet Water, who use China’s brutal military occupation in Tibet to bottle and sell Tibetan resources. Will you tell Liverpool FC’s directors to stop supporting human rights abuses and end this deal? The exploding p...
