Re: A Nice Surprise.

Lovely.
I have only met him twice..the time I describe above and once before..in fact it was about two years before, in a very different setting and temperature. It was North Wales and a cold early spring day.
But that didn't stop him singing.

A Nice Surprise.

Mention of Khenpo Tsultrim on another thread prompted a memory.
We had battled upwards on a hot day to the Asura Cave in Pharping..
As I approached the cave entrance I could hear singing.
Khenpo Tsultrim was seated inside singing songs of Milarepa...

Re: "One Mind" in Hua Yen thought

Upon further reflection, though, it is clear to me he was right. Many Buddhist types who reject "God" really just reject that which is easily rejected: the crudely anthropomorphized tribal deity. But they continue to hold tightly to a less-defined spiritual "oneness" or "source" of reality, and to ...

'Samsara and life are not the same thing' ... Wrong in so many ways on so many levels its actually funny. Oh boy. But they are different. They are also completely the same. And they say Buddhism is "scientific". :sage: Well, Buddhadharma, as 'science' doesn't bear too much examination, does i...

Re: Allow myself to introduce myself.

Thank you for your story Drenpa. I can only marvel at your sanity and good sense after experiencing all that.. The nearest I have come to experiencing that degree of cognitive dissonance was with my first teacher. But the parallels are only partial and were to do with his behaviours..his core teachi...

Re: Acer to market 'smart prayer beads'

Stupid question, but why count them, anyway? Wouldn't it be better to practice until the signs appear? How did this come about that it was important to count mantras? As Monlam Tharchin points out those undergoing Ngondro are often given a target for mantra recitation/prostrations. This can be 1440...

I will continue to highlight what I believe to be Wrong Views in your posts. What 'clogs' this Buddhist forum is repeated posting of universali...

Re: "One Mind" in Hua Yen thought

Glad to help. Perhaps I can help a little more. Put aside my 'suggestive manipulation' for two minutes and ask your self why you post. Your views..specifically the idea that Buddhadharma is just a construct ,and is not unique, and in fact is a variation on some kind of universal truth found in other...

Re: "One Mind" in Hua Yen thought

There was at one time a now defunct Zen forum. I dipped into it a couple of times and a large proportion of its western members seemed to have swallowed the 'vedantic one mind' interpretation hook, line and sinker. I suspect that was why a number of them failed to see that well known traditional Ved...

pen and papper would do... :rolling:
If the idea is just to keep count then pen and paper would certainly do. As would a child's abacus.

I suspect however that there is rather more to mantra practice than that.
