Re: reads on karma and transmigration

The sections on karma etc. in Jigme Lingpa's Treasury of Precious Qualities are the best I have read.

Re: Morality of stockholding

Owning shares of energy companies is wildly unethical and immoral in my opinion. According to buddhist morality: "A lay follower should not engage in five types of business. Which five? Business in weapons, business in human beings, business in meat, business in intoxicants, and business in poison....

There is nothing immoral about owning stocks as long as they have nothing to do with guns or alcohol.

Re: Preparation for Ordination in Nyingma

It's important to be honest about our motivations and capacities before embarking on any commitments. It seems worth remembering that even the great Patrul was only ordained as a novice monk. He did this intentionally because he was honest about his capacity and his motivation was altruism. A thorou...

Re: Dzogchen and Mahamudra main differences

They are essentially the same.
The only real differences are in methodology.
What we normally think of as Mahamudra is virtually identical to Dzogchen Semde.

Re: How to understand the body correctly

I think this is on point but we also shouldn't take this to the extreme absurd level. People can understand and apply more than I think sometimes we give them credit for. Especially when we talk about other Buddhists that have lived in monasteries, studied the texts at a near academic level and hav...

Re: How to understand the body correctly

If you really want to understand this topic from the Vajrayana/Dzogchen point of view you will need empowerments, transmissions, direct introduction etc. After that, there are English translations of works by Longchenpa and others that explain the topic clearly. Which are by Longchenpa on this topi...

Re: Dzongsar Khyentse on the importance of Mahayana

He is a Rinpoche so they must necessary. You’re kidding I hope. No, which kind of vajrayana are you practicing? The one that critics the guru? Sorry haven't heard of that one yet. Must be new. Good luck with that. The Vajrayana of Longchenpa, Jigme Lingpa, and Patrul. It’s working out just fine.

Re: Dzongsar Khyentse on the importance of Mahayana

He cant seem to resist an opportunity to belittle the people who pay for his privileged lifestyle. You cannot seem to resist an opportunity to belittle Rinpoche in whatever public forums come up. I don't think it's particularly helpful as a Vajrayana practitioner to slander teachers of the dharma w...

Re: Dzongsar Khyentse on the importance of Mahayana

His affirmation of the benefits of practicing the Mahayana as a basis for the Vajrayana. I am sorry, but this following statement is very silly: Those who skip the Mahayana path and go straight to the Vajrayana path are obvious from a distance by the gleam of their oily hair. They have at least fou...

Re: Morality of stockholding

Dzogchen is popular? Maybe in some other world system. Interesting response; where do you live? I don't mean popular like Elvis or the Beatles were, I just mean among "spiritual" people. Among that subset of the population, it seems you can't swing a dead cat these days without hitting a "Dzogchen"...

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

Ive read the booklet numerous times, he gives two practices not a combination. You can have a path which combines two or more practices of the same deity. The problem we have is that ChNN does not always use consistent English and may talk of a 'combination' or 'combining' whilst not meaning 'mixin...

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

When Rinpoche says: The practice of Guru Drakphur we do is a combination of GD of Namcho and of Heka Lingpa.... What does this mean? A mixture? Atiguru yoga. It can be practiced hundreds of times a day in all activities.

Dzogchen is not a 'method' although there is a process. Yeah, Dzogchen is not a method. And originally, it referred strictly to the end state, not to a method, a philosophy, or even Well, Dzogchen will never be trendy since it cannot be practiced without a guru, unlike mindfulness or what passes fo...
