Re: Dungsey Shenphen Dawa Norbu Rinpoche entered into Parinirvana

According to Tulku Namgyal Dawa Rinpoche's facebook, H.H Dudjom Sangye Pema Shepa Rinpoche (the Tibetan yangsi) will be presiding over the cremation ceremonies at Orgyen Cho Dzong. I'm not sure if he's ever visited the United States before, but in any case this is incredibly auspicious. He has been...

Re: Death and Consciousness

Thank you Josef_/\_ There should be more awareness of this in Western culture & whatever other cultures that do not observe this, (as they do in Tibetan culture ). :crying: I wonder if it's even legal to keep a loved one for 49 days in the United State$....to give the persons consciousness time to ...

Re: Obstacles to Bodhicitta

I've been working on Bodhicitta for a while but it seems like I keep hitting a wall. I have the same problem with Emptiness, but over time and repeated meditations I keep pushing the wall back. With Bodhicitta the wall doesn't move at all. I follow the Lam Rim method (love->compassion->personal res...

Re: What is the difference between conduct and setting an example?

The four means of converting beings to the Dharma are generosity (which itself as four aspects: giving material gifts, conferring fearlessness, loving kindness and teaching Dharma), pleasant speech, conduct and setting an example. What is the difference between conduct and setting an example? Thank...

Re: Death and Consciousness

What happens if your body is cremated or buried before consciousness leaves it ? It depends on the level of consciousness that remains and how much one practiced. If one isnt prepared being cremated too soon will make recognizing the bardo of dharmata much more difficult than it already is. Thank y...

The reason why the Tibetan tradition refers to practitioners of Buddhadharma as “insiders” is that there is no theory of salvation by an external savior in Buddhadharma.
Whoa, where did you learn this from?
This is also essentially what the Tibetan word for "Buddhist" implies.

Re: Did the 84 mahasiddhas authorize others to teach?

Very interesting: So far nobody presented a strong case why teaching authorisation was part of the lineage system in the early days of Vajrayana. This settles an uncertainty I had on this topic for quite some time in a, for me, surprising way. Not only early Vajrayana. This notion of explicit autho...

Re: Did the 84 mahasiddhas authorize others to teach?

The BRUB : Given that the path can be traversed solely through this depth of confidence, it is acceptable to apply effort only with practice. If that is not the case and a person claims to be one who can show this path to others, it is imperative that they at least have experience based upon extens...

I have read about that but I was wondering about this time specifically.
It is always a donwang if it is on webcast, in my experience at least.

/magnus
It was not webcasted. I think it was not a tonwang but I am not sure.
He has given it via webcast several times in the past.

...There were many large monastic institutions in India at the time of the Mahasiddhas... what are those? i am only avare of 5: Nalanda, Vikramashila, Somapura, Odantapura and Jagaddala. that's from wikipedia. That counts as many to me, and they were definitely "institutions". Nalanda was a center ...

Re: Did the 84 mahasiddhas authorize others to teach?

This notion of explicit permission is something that seems to mostly apply to non-Tibetan practitioners. If one was living in a valley in the Himalaya's, had received empowerment, instructions, and applied the practices diligently, there would be nobody questioning whether or not said individual co...

at the time of mahasiddhas there were generally no such thing as monastic establishment and lineages have been transmitted in a rather private way from a master to several disciples. That's not quite accurate. There were many large monastic institutions in India at the time of the Mahasiddhas and i...
