Re: what do you think of this article on Tibetan Buddhism?

The first line states that Padmasambhava founded Vajrayana buddhism. That was enough to stop reading. I also think that, isn't Padmasambhava who found it? I am not Vajrayana, so I don't know if there is something wrong with this Padmasambhava transmitted Varjayana teachings to Tibet. He was by no me...

Also what texts specify the time restrictions?
Considering that we are on the path of eliminating limitations wouldnt it seem more fruitful to look in that direction?
Unless this is a purely academic pursuit the practices that lead to liberation are a more useful focus.

I enjoyed it.
It was nice to see a simple, accessible presentation of Dzogchen and Mahamudra given in this setting.

Re: Yidams on a bikini

Which Yidams are we going to get upset about most? Garuda gets slapped on everything you can thing of and doesn't seem to be harmed too much by the experience. Then we have the yantras, mantras and seed syllables we can get upset about as well. Then there's the reverse sutuation - people see a nake...

I have a question about the Guru practice for the SMS three roots. Can you accumulate the mantra normally, or do you have to recite it with the melody?

Thanks!
No melody necessary

what about "i'm in middle of the sadhana, now i'm conteplating, now i'm satisfied"... this "contemplation" is just another fabrication!!!!!!
That's distraction, which is the root of ignorance, which leads to the other afflictions.

Re: Yidams on a bikini

In the vast majority, if not all cases these individuals aren’t practitioners. They haven’t taken refuge, bodhicitta, or samaya vows and therefore have no commitments to revere Buddhist images etc.. This isn’t a downfall for non-vow holders. Publicly shaming them amounts to religious fanaticism. Th...

Exactly. If we want something to outraged by as practitioners we should look at suffering in places like Gaza, the US/Mexico border, Yemen, and all of the other parts of the world where sentient beings are being tortured and tormented in the name of ignorance and greed. Religious indignation has no...

Re: Yidams on a bikini

There's a post going around on social media addressing the depictions of Buddha, Tara, and some yidams being placed on bathing suits, skirts, shirts, etc. and people are expressing “outrage” and are calling for a boycott of Amazon who is selling this merchandise. As practitioners I would think folk...

Re: Symptoms Before Vajra Hell

the guessing has begun! Going to Vajra hell is no easy task. These are the actions which lead to rebirth there: 1. Intentionally killing one's father. 2. Intentionally killing one's mother. 3. Killing an Arhat (enlightened being). 4. Shedding the blood of a Buddha. 5. Creating a schism within the S...

Re: Mipham: Gelug = Svatantrika Madhyamaka

How can anyone gain realizations by dissing their Root and Lineage Gurus? All Gelugpas are connected to these great Masters who were blameless. They are the source of these difficulties. This is something for the lineage to reconcile. Someone has led you to believe this, but it's simply not true. T...
